You should be showing the check engine light. Rent a scanner, read out any code(s) and pursue to repair(s).

Will a motor out of a 1986 interchange with my 1990 ford ranger

Should bolt in, depending on size of the motor if it's the same 3.8, or 4.0 (6 cylinder) or four cylinder. The problem with using a different size is wire harness, exhaust and the peripherals. But 86 to 90 didn't change very much it's after 93 that Ford made a lot of changes. Hope this helps...

2009 ford ranger 4 litre noise sounds like a diesel

It could be several things causing the rattling such as: low octane gas, timing off, or a bad bearing in the lower half of the motor. I'd start with changing my gas to a premium grade and go from there.

2000 ranger 4.0 misfire and running lean bank 1 and 2

What config motor? I'm confused is it a 4 litre straight 6 or a V configeration. If straight 6 spray aerostart around nr 1 intake manifold to head if idle picks up you need a new intake gasket this is very common. is it missing at idle, under load (up hill) or both. does it have coil overs (coil on each plug or old leads set up?

My ranger has a 4 cyl lima engine seems to run ok but has no power and burns a lot of gas could this be catalydic conerter or coil paks

It's a lot more likely to be your CAT converter. or maybe even your oxygen sensors. Do you have a service light on in your ranger?

My 2004 ford ranger turns on when I turn the key but wont send power to the starter

I also have a 2004 Ranger and put in a new starter because all I got was a clicking sound. I did a lot of research after that and it seems the BATTERY doesn't have the cranking amps to turn over the motor. I have it in the shop right now and will know for sure tomorrow but all indications point in this direction.

2004 Ford Ranger Automatic - While highway driving if I give my truck too much gas when trying to pass it slips into natural. If I let up on the petal, it will go back into gear.

This is typical of the transmissioin or motor mounts being busted or loose & as the drivetrain shifts position from the load change, so does the shift position causing the change from one to the other. good luck.
