Question about Suzuki Vitara

Year Model: 1998 ( Sidekick look ) Without lights / fan switched on, the vehicle idle at 1000rpm. But, when I switch the lights/fan on, the engin revs climb up to 2500rpm and stays there. What can be the reason be for this, "idle take off"?

Hello I have 2002 envoy check engine light is on!! O riellys could not get any codes!! Engine idles and switches gears fine its just hesitant and is making a fan noise constantly like when u take off...

If the check engine light is on, there is a code, or codes, lodged in the computer's memory. Try having your vehicle scanned elsewhere. They might not have done it correctly at OReilly's.

Due to part availability, this recall is being conducted in three phases. Phase 1 will consist of 1998-1999 vehicles, phase 2 will consist of 2000 vehicles; and phase 3 will consist of 2001 vehicles. When sufficient parts are available to notify customers of 2000 and 2001 vehicles, you will be notified and will receive a new initiation report.
Recall - Ignition Circuit DefectCondition
General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 1998 model year Buick Skylark; 1998-2001 model year Chevrolet Cavalier; 1998 model year Oldsmobile Achieva; 1998 model year Pontiac Grand Am; and 1998-2001 model year Pontiac Sunfire vehicles. If the engine fails to start and the driver holds the key in the "start" position for an extended period, high current flows through the ignition switch, and sometimes produces enough heat to melt internal switch parts. If the switch is damaged, a fire could occur in the steering column, even with the engine off and the key removed. The fire could spread to the interior of the car, which could injure occupants of the car or cause damage to adjoining structures.

Check engine light is on. Car has what seems to be a low idle under 1000rpm and if I floor it only goes up to 3000rpm in neutral. When I am driving along it seems to sputter as I accelerate and I can hear...

I would give you some credit for knowing the routine
when a check light comes on any vehicle, since they have
been on vehicles for 30 years. YOU GIVE US THE CODE
SET, WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON

The idle should be around 700 rpm approx,so what is the
issue there?
The 3000 rpm is all it will go in neutral, so you don't damage
the engine, the manufacture knew you would try that!

The LS has about 2 ignition coil failures a year
All Fords loose EGR Valves early in their life
O2 Sensors get replaced at 100,000 miles
(front 2 only)

I could keep going

You just need to start working on the vehicle
instead of driving it, until it acts up

My windows will not go up and it will not start unless i cross over the starter and have the ignition held all the way on but as soon as i let of the key it dies

what sort of vehicle is it? year make and model ignition type?
does it have a security system?
do the lights and radio and heater fan etc work when ignition swith is on acessories?
If not your ignition switch sounds like its broken.
does it run when you cross the starter motor terminals or does it just crank over? ( trying to start)

PCM is difficult to diagnose without proper scan tool, commanding components and verifying pcm ability to control them. Watching data as compared to actual inputs, these eliminate all but the pcm. As for the cooling fans, I have seen cooling fan related issues cause the pcm to failsafe. Causing stalling, low power, and rough idle. Why did you install a manual switch. If pcm is commanding them on and the fans, relays, and circuits are good then your circuits are good. I would look into why the fans are not operational and this may lead to the diagnosis you need.

@1000rpm car idles good, under 1000rpm,engine has rough idle, even cuts off at stop light or stop sign

you may want to check your Idle Control Solenoid Valve if it needs cleaning. This is a common issue. If this does not help, I would ask for more details like maker and engine model.

Rev counter falling below 1000rpm when warm, nearly stalling

If this is a 1.8 petrol model then the idling adjuster/throttle stop screw needs to be adjusted.Slight adjustment can be done without a diagnostic tool ,loosen the lock nut holding the throttle screw found near the throttle cable, adjust this in clockwise to increase revs.

High idle with a/c on.

Cars are SUPPOSE to idle higher when the A/C is on...(especially 134a systems)..the idle will go up and down as the compressor cycles on and off.
