In 4th or 5th gear, but what speeds? Possibly check universal joints in the front drive shaft. See if there is any up and down movement in the front output yoke on the transfere case. Putting in 4wd changes load shaft. Have seen a few of the transfere case problems. Usually the ujoint will cause when 4wd engaged, but check anyway. Any noise from transfere case?

Loosen all the engine and trans mounts and the exhasust head pipe pipes from the exh manifolds, then shift the trans from park to reverse a few times and then to nuetral, shut off the engine and see if that helps.

Toyota 4 runner, 1990. vibration

very possible
front drive shaft is the most likely as it does little work and the grease tends to dry out promoting wear
check all slip joints on both drive shafts as well as "u" joints
check engine mounts and front diff mounts as if they are broken , that will allow misalignment of the shaft angles

I have a 1997 landcruiser, when driveing at 40 to 50mph a vibration appers when accelerating up to 70mph it gets worse take foot of accelerater goin down hill thers is no noise or vibration

Check your universal joints in the drive shaft. When you remove your foot fromt the accelerator you are no longer applying power to the rear wheels and in turn there is no load on the drive shaft. When you accelerate below 40mph, there isn't enough centrifugal force to cause the driveshaft to wobble, but once you go above 40mph, it begins to show slop.

Another thing to check is your wheel bearings.

If your tires are excessively worn or is you have a puncture sealant in them, it can cause these issues.

Vibrating Doors

You may need new motor mounts...if they are worn out this would allow additonal vibration from the engine to transfer to the vehicle body & doors . If it is 4WD then also check underneath for the center driveshaft mount. Higher mileage cars tend to have the mounts lose there ability to dampen engine movement upon engagement.

Any shop should be able to push on the brake and engage the transmission in drive or reverse and watch the whole vibration event happen.

Then it becomes a determination of which mounts to replace.
