Does the light flash on & off when this happens? If so it is just a plug wire. A flashing CEL indicates a misfire and inevitable cat overheating. Pretty serious stuff. But if it just stays on, read the code already. A cheap code reader is all anyone needs to avoid being "taken for a ride". $50 bucks for a basic code reader and you will never have to be in the dark. OBD2 makes life simple. Shops act as if OBD2 is complicated, it is not. Best thing to come aling since fuel injection.

Take it to Advance auto or Auto zone, let them connect a scanner, (free of charge) , they can read the codes & most cases tell you what part or system is failing.

1999 HONDA ACCORD LX IS TURNNING OFF WHILE I DRIVE

when this stall happens notice if the speedometer drops to "0" while the vehicle is in motion, if some warning lights aren't lit (chk engine, ABS, brake etc.) when key is set to "On"!! If these issues happen when the vehicle "shuts off while driving" it may be caused by "ignition switch failure". Your vehicle may be part of a 2002 Honda/Acura recall. Symtoms include: intermitted power loss, intermitted engine shut off, some warning lights not lit, random hard starts. This happens more often in warmer/hot weather. Call your local dealer and provide them with your VIN# to check if your vehicle is still covered, they may fix it for free. Otherwise the part is about $48-$100!!

Check gage light goes on intermitantly along with the temperature going to hot. At the same time the engine sounds like I turned the ac on. I also notice a loss of power. Any ideas???

The "check gage" when ever the engine coolant is high or the engine oil pressure is low. First step of diagnosis, check the coolant level and your oil level immediately and then go from there. Hopefully, this will help you to FixYa problem!

To clarify the problem with the 1998 honda civic there are no trouble codes. I just change the exh manifold and catyltic converter it is running and has cut out on me twice since then. This clarification...

is your engine cutting out while driving?? When it happens again notice if 1.Your speedometer goes to zero while in motion?? 2. If Some warning indicators lights aren't lit?? If yes, it's the ignition switch. Ignition switches on Hondas made from 97-02 encounter ignition switch failure. A recall was implimented in 2002. Ignition switch internal contacts severely arch or short causing intermitted power loss to vital engine electrical components. In this case causing the motor to intermittedly shut off while cruising. Call your local Honda dealer with your VIN# at hand for info on this. Possiblly they will replace this, if not they range from $45-$95....Hopefuly this tip helps

Battery light comes on while driving with a loss of power?

Have your battery checked to make sure it does not have a bad cell, have your alternator checked to make sure it is putting out a full charge to your battery. Sometimes the ASC light is activated wen there is an engine issue that does not have it's own code. You may also wish to have your parking lamps checked to make sure your lamp connections do not have worn wire covers that may be grounding out.
