There probably is but here is what i know, #1,2,3,4 are on the passengers side starting from the front going to the back of engine...#5,6,7,8 are on the drivers side starting from front to back...so #6 plug is the 2nd plug on the drivers side and the fuel rail may be in the way to access it and the power steering pump bracket may be in the way as well.

Ignition coil e

The ignition coils are listed from 'A" to "L" (up to 12 cylinders) and they are in sequence according to the firing order. This diagram will help you out, and according to this diagram for your vehicle, "E" is the fifth letter so the fifth cylinder in the firing order is cylinder #6, and as you can see from the diagram that coil "E" or cylinder #6 is the second spark plug or cylinder from the front on the drivers side of the engine.

For the 1999 Mercury Mountaineer:
I do not know if you have the 4.0L SOHC V6 or the 5.0L SOHC V8; however I have included both below:

.........(front)
Ignition Coil Connections:
..(back)
1...2...3
5...6...4- This is correct!
..(front)

For the 5.0L SOHC V8:
Firing Order:
