1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee Dome lights keep turning on and off

My jeep has become a disco on wheels for the last ten days and now the dome lights just stay on all the time. I feel like the problem has to do with the rear door and/or back window. If I push on the back window the lights sometimes go off, but as soon as I let go, they are on again. Any quick fixes before I have to take it in. Money is thight right now.

Obviously the switch is not making proper contact with the door {gate itself over time they become worn out or bend as they are made of plastic these days replace the switch or make a rubber boot to it or bend the switch plate forwards enough to allow it to be fully closed and make the necessary contact to it but the switch may very well need replacing this is your issue

This is a do-it-yourself thing ...FREE! .. or maybe 30 cents...

The "push button" switch has te be adjusted.
The tailgate, just like each of your doors, has a push button switch that controls the light on/off.
It needs to be adjusted "higher" (needs to stick-out more....
If it is not loose, you might add a rubber pad to the tailgate where it comes in contact with the button.

Hope this helps!

Any rubber pad ... like a bicycle tire patch (one square inch) ...

Stick it on the tailgate where the pushbutton switch touches the tailgate. You might see a worn spot there.

    This will do two things:

    1. Create a cushion for the switch and

    2. Help push the button further in.

Interior Dome light will not go out

The problem was in the dome light itself. It is being replaced. The problem could have been caused by my son tucking and stapling a detached headliner around the dome light resulting in a ground problem that also shorted out other electrical systems. The exact cause is unknown.
