Buy a bottle of Techron Fuel injector cleaner. It's sold in many grocery stores and all auto parts stores. Pour the whole bottle into the gas tank when you can fill up. Drive the car and don't put more gas in until the car is almost empty. That should fix it

Fast idle cold to hot

to fast hot and too fast cold that it?
well here is normal, its a G16 engine, a Vitara with Sidekick badge.
G16 in cold weather, start and race idle at about 1500 rpm
or more if in ALASKA, you never said that or how cold it is.
the IAC valve is thermal, it and opens more colder, a fact.
the 8valve engine (black steel top) is faster. cold idle
then drops in a few seconds, to 1500rpm
at this time, the ECU brain does NOT control idle speeds at all.
the the engine warms up by virtue of the thermostat
as it warms to 150F to on way to 180f stock temp.
the ECU then takes control of the idle speeds.
got that so far?
so at 180f the idle is 800 rpm (800 is hard coded in the ECU,
ad ECU regulates this, unless you turn on the A.C , and if that happens 1000rpm is called up.
if not the ECU cant control it or the ECU is in limphome mode or worse.

if you insert the diagnostic jumper
does the CEL lamp flash 12s
it must.
see this paper clip this is your only scan tool.
it is crude but that is all you get until 1996.

My 2.0 engine idles fast on a cold start. Then idles down after warming up.

This is normally the way it is suppose to work. You need to have the RPM measured for High RPM and duration. What you are describing is how an electronic choke is suppose to work.

The errors would be how high the RPM goes and for how long it lasts. When cold the RPM, fuel mix and timing are changed to give a rich fuel mix. As the O2 sensors warm(Could be defective) they signal the engine to lean up. The water thermostat also has something to do changing the engine to a lean running slow condition.

If obtaining heat from your heater seems to take Forever, the thermostat could be weak. This would coincide with the engine continuing at a high RPM longer because it is not warming up.

Suzuki sidekick jx runs good when cold after it warms up it revs up & down

it is your air to fuel mixture causing that problem.
When car is cold choke is out and more fuel is given to allwo it to run.
When car warms up fuel returns to a normal level and the problem starts.
If its a carb version then they will need ballancing.
Injection model will need tuning

My partner has a 2006 Suzuki Swift. When I started it cold. It seems to idle ok between 1.5 & 1.0 RPM. But when its warmed up normal range. It idles at about 2 RPM. happens everytime. any ideas on the...

the normal rpm is from 700 to 800. after 900 is too high since the car is runing too high at all times there is a vacum leak a hose or intake gasquet but check the idle valve may be stuk open

I have a 1995 suzuki sidekick when idling, the rpms on the gauge were going up and down

That would be normal. I slight variation in speed is a normal thing. If it's more than 50 rpm, you've got some other problem.

that is totally normal, the car has an automatic choke that makes is rev at those RPMs when it is cold then is goes back to normal when it warms up. don't worry about it!
