4 Wheel drive when hooked up it's like the front right locks up

When I have the 4 wheel hooked up it sounds and act like the front right locks up when pulling out of a parking spot. This happens quite often in the winter when pulling out of a parking spot, the right front wheel seems to lock up when I have the 4 wheel plugged in, if I unplug it this does not happen. I need some help winter is coming and this is my wifes vehicle. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

My 2011 Dodge Nitro keeps slipping out of 4 wheel drive while driving uphill

1. There is no limited slip differential on the Nitro. It was never offered as an option. Traction control acts by applying the brake to the spinning wheel, thus sending torque to the opposite wheel.
2. 4 Wheel Lock locks the 2 drive shafts together - 50/50 torque split.
3. There is NO center differential in the transfer case. Thus, our system is considered a Part Time 4WD system.
4. This being said, you can only engage 4WD on a slippery surface, or you may end up breaking something.
5. The Traction Control works on both the front and back, so it acts like an ELSD on both ends.

Why every time when I turn the steering wheel the rear differential starts to lock and it shakes?

Do you have the vehicle in 4 wheel drive? 4 wheel drive is only meant for slippery conditions. It will act exactly as you describe if on dry surfaces.

Lock in your 4 wheel drive, and get under the truck, and try to manually turn the front drive-shaft. If the drive-shaft spins freely, then your 4x4 is not locking in correctly, and you may need to replace the lockers.
Good luck!

Sounds like it is in 4 wheel drive mode.
If you have a switch to disconnect the 4 wheel drive it may not be working.
If the vehicle is full time 4 wheel drive or computer controlled 4 wheel drive you have most likely a locked in full 4 wheel drive mode situation.
Not good on dry pavement.

Front drive, 4 Wheel drive won't engage

that vacume line goes back to the transfer case, the end that goes behind the motor hooks to a steel tube so it does not get hot from the exhaust., my guess it should be hooked up so it will feed vacume to the vacume ball so it can lock in the axels. if you start the car and shift into 4 wheel drive and listen under hood you should hear a hissing sound, that is vacume, if you can't hear it there, you may have to craw under the right side to hear it, probably came unhooked underneith the car

I have a 1988 chevy pickup. The 4 wheel drive does not work. the transfer case is kicking in but the hubs are not. The front shaft is spinning in 4 wheel drive bu the hubs are not engaging

OK If you have manual locking hubs, one could be acting up. Jack the rear wheels off the ground and block the front wheels. Be sure you have the trucks back axel supported, not just on jacks! Then, with a person in the drivers seat, put it in gear. The 'driver' will turn the steering from lock to lock, while you check [from outside the truck, not under]] for the shaft at the front wheels that is spinning. This is the prob ! Frankster016
