Question about 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee

2 Answers

Where is neutral safety switch 95 jeep cherokee . This is the Cherokee Country with the inline 6 cyl 4.0 Motor. I have been having intermittent problems with a ''no start'' situation. Usually if I push the gear selector forward (almost above park) it will start up. The other thing is, just waiting 5 minutes seems to work also. Now I cant start it all. I have tryed moving the shifter to neutral also and it still doesnt start. Would also be interested in wiring schematic if available, thank's in advance

Your switch is on the passenger side of the transmission opposite where the shift linkage goes in on the drivers side.It takes a bit of careful prying and wiggling and some solvent to get most to come off. after removing the hardware that holds it on. The switch goes for about $200 but can be taken apart and cleaned...unless the contacts are really burned it will generally work after that. make sure that you keep it flat when taking it apart because stuff inside can fall out easily. Put dielectric grease in there before closing it up.Can't help with schematic...the ones I have I wouldn't wish on anyone. (terrible)

My 93 jeep cherokee does not start sometimes, I have to play with shifter to engage it, when it does engage I hear a click. Have to put it in neutral sometimes to start.

The neutral safety switch is faulty which would explain why sometimes you have to position it in neutral for it to start. The switch is located on side of the transmission,It has a long wiring harness that runs up near the transmission dipstick tube.U can purchase that switch at advance auto.

95 jeep cherokee country 6 cyl auto. wont crank all the time

Bad solenoid i would guess. Not making a connection there. Any basic wiring and ignition switch problems should be alleviated by jumping the starter with a screwdriver. I would check the solenoid and starter brushes

Causes for no spark on 94 jeep cherokee please

Well it could be many things, But have you relpaced the dist. cap and rotor, within the last 15,000 miles or wires and plugs??? next step is the coil ? then it gets fun. like timing. but I think most jeeps with a Inline 6 have a bullet proof engine for the most part. As we all know there is plenty of semi's on the road. well the same set up is there. as an Inline Jeep. I would have to say 90% of semi's on the road are inline 6 cyl. engines. and may of them go to 1million miles.
so plugs, wires, cap, rotor and ignition coil. that is a good starting point.
