96 Cavalier gurgling noise and a little hard to start

I have an automatic 96 Cavalier 2.2 L. Recently I replaced my spark plugs and spark plug wires. My boyfriend went to check one of the spark plug wires. The metal thing inside the wire broke off and was stuck on the spark plug. He thought he fixed it, but all this time it felt like I was running on 3 cyl. I finally just replaced that one spark plug wire and it ran better and I was saving a lot more gas. Then he opened the cap marked ''transmission''. I assume that's where you put the tranny fluid? How do you check the tranny fluid level? Any way, then the next day my car started making this gurgling noise on the passenger front side. What is the gurlging noise? Also, it has been having a hard time starting up. Usually it takes 2-4 tries before I can get the car to start. Is the timing off?

I do not know where the dipstick is located. I only see the cap that says "transmission", but no dipstick. Also, it does sound like the over flow tank is boiling. I just replaced the thermostat a few weeks ago due to another problem that ended up being the coolant level sensor.

What do you mean by are they spark plugs set right?

To check level of training fluid warm car up and while engine is running check the dipstick to see if the fluid level is at the top of the area on the stick where the criss cross grooves are, it should say hot or full note wipe stick off at first pull out then recheck it after placing it back in and pulling it back out.
First was the spark plugs set right ?
and the gurgling noise could be a sign that the thermostat is sticking and its most likely the radiator fluid boiling back into the over flow tank if you pop the hood does it stink like radiator fluid and is the over flow tank boiling ?

To check tranny fluid, car has to run on park for couple mins, then find the dip take it out wipe but back in and check will car running, then the starting problem sounds like your crank sensor is bad replace that if ,still no luck then its timing belt of a tooth or so.if my info was of help please leave a comment, vote, note.thankyou

I ASSUME its a 2.2l VIN "4"? Better be SURE you put in the correct crank. Different years have different tone wheels for the Crank Sensor. If it ran before, it should run now. I think 2 wire connector is for power to coils Power to Pink wire comes from IGN fuse A. Pink is 12V, Black is ground, 6 wire plug is for ICM.(bolted to base of coil pack) cant bench test anything. Should be a code 42 if cranked for 5 seconds and no start if its a CKP issue.

Burning smell, check engine light-misfire, rough idle 96 cavalier

Sounds like there is a blown piston, to be sure have a compression test done on that #2 cylinder, if the reading is low, then you'll know.
A friend of mine had a 95 that did simular things only a little more,
it started smoking, dash lights flickered, etc. Finally, he had to get rid of it, the piston rod went through the engine block.

I have a 96 cavalier z24. when I start it up the

Autozone and similar stores will check the codes in the computer for free usually. That is the best place to start. Other possibilities are Engine Coolant Temperature sensor (saying the engine is cold when it's not) or excessive fuel pressure (bad regulator or blocked return line)
