THe fuel sending unit is located in the tank, with the fuel pump assembly, drive it untilits almost empty, its easier to drop if you don't have a lift. After you remove the unit turn key on and see if you can make it work.... you will still have to replace it

Drop the gas tank and check for contamination/corrosion. You're going to have to do that to replace the fuel level sender anyway and check both the fuel pump (it's in the tank) and the primary filter on the pickup tube.

Is the fuel sensor on a 1998 voyager located in the fuel pump or a separate part in the fuel tank?

the "sensor" is actually just a long arm with a "floaty? on the end and gauges where in the tank the top of the fuel is located therefore giving you a read out on your dash. the sensor your talking about sounds like the low level readout sensor.this is located elsewhere and is simply asensor that reads the information of of the fuel pump and vocalizes low fuel warning. if you knowingly have fuel in your vehicle then your sensor may be shorting or or your dash gause has a short.

Fuel sensor not working, how do I remove/repair

You may want to check the rest of the system befor you condem the sensor. Unplugging the sensor wiring should send the indicator to full and grouding the wire through a test light should show empty tank. If the system works then the senor is stuck, has a bad connection or broken. The sensor is in the fuel tank which must be removed to inspect. An ugly job if you dont have a hoist.
drop tank a few inches, disconnect wiring and fuel lines - you may want to release fuel pressure through the service valve on the fuel rail by the injectors before dissconnecting. remove pump and sensor assembly. use ohm meter to check sensor. Resistance usually ranges from 10 to 100 ohms. If no resistance reading replace sensor. It may be hard to find a sepperate sensor as they usually come with a pump assembly.
Or dont fix it and always keep your tank full. You should know how far a tank will get you. I would fill up every 300-400 kms

2002 Chevy Suburban: Fuel gauge reads empty, tank is half full

Youre gauge is controlled by a plunger in the fuel tank which is attached to the sensor and the fuel gauge. it sounds like when the plunger goes down half way its either getting stuck down lower then it should. Needs replacing. Any mechanic can do this install for you.

Fuel gauge not working on alfa gtv 1998

Sounds as though the tank sensor is faulty. Access through top of petrol tank, note the wiring colours and position. Lift out and check condition of float and the rheostat wiring and slider. Get a replacement from EB spares
