Question about 2001 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

My Transmission is Good. Shifts well. Struggles with last gear.

My Transmission is Good. Shifts well. Great on cooler days. Sluggish on warmer days. If I drive with the ac or heat off it shifts perfectly fine. If I drive with the ac on it shifts smooth and great up to the last gear and then is struggles to shift up into last gear. I then have to gun the gas petal and it bucks into the last gear. However I dont have this problem when the ac is off. When AC is off I can hit 95 mph without a problem if needed. LOL!
Any Clue what this is about?

I have a 2000 Olds intrigue it set up for about 6 years. Now it will start and run strong but struggles to drive. I have changed plugs, fuel filter, checked map sensor did coolant change,...

I don't understand runs strong, but struggles to drive? Do you mean it revs easily in nuetral or park but is sluggish accellerating in drive or in gear? Try putting air in all the tires. Also, make sure the brakes aren't seized. Jack up the car and see if the wheels spin freely to check if the brakes are engauged.

Hope it helps. Good luck.

I have a 97 gmc Sierra v6 automatic and when I start it in the morning it does all the shifts fine and after driving it for about 10 min it struggles to shift into last gear. Don't know what it could...

You don't have a clutch in that automatic, check your transmission fluid first. Make sure you run your truck for 10 min. or so before you check the fluid level. If your fluid is correct then take it to a mechanic, they can check your transmission with their computer and see exactly what is happening when it can't find 4th gear.

I just replaced the transmission in my 1992 Ford F 250. It ran great the first day. The next day it wouldn't shift out of 2nd gear. My mechanic suggested I take the battery cables off to reset the code....

Did you replace the transmission yourself? If so and the failed unit you replaced left debris in the fluid...did you flush out the lines and cooler... we have even added external cooler and eliminate internal radiator cooler if a unit had a catastrophic failure due to debris in lines\cooler... ford tranny's are especially susceptible to dirt\debris in fluid and could cause shift hang.

good luck

Its 2 wheel drive, but the transmission won't shift unless you manuallyl put the gear shifter in low then work your way up to get the gears to change. The gears work fine it just won't change on its on. If...

Trans shifts into gear harshly, car feels sluggish off the line, No 1st, 4th or TCC lockup available, Manual 2nd, 3rd and Reverse are only available gears, CEL is on: Transmission is either in limp-home mode or has lost electrical power. If there are lots of error codes in the PCM, check the under-hood fuse that powers the transmission, and if it pops again, look for a short in that circuit like an O2 sensor harness touching exhaust. Otherwise, check PCM codes for a particular fault in the transmission causing the PCM to put it in limp-home mode.

No 1st or 4th available; trans shifts 2nd to 3rd by itself in D or OD and locks the converter : ShiftA solenoid failed. Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Car goes into gear but feels very sluggish like the brakes are dragging, but it will roll easily (starts out in 4th gear), you manually shift to 2 to get it moving, once it's moving you put it back in OD and the car shifts 3rd to 4th on its own and locks the converter at the appropriate time: ShiftB solenoid failed: Easy fix in the pan. Or a wiring problem from PCM to trans.. or PCM.

Good luck and keep me posted, there are other things but these things mentioned seam like what you described.

4L 60E - 2001 k1500 will not shift into 3-4. Oil is not burn't and stifts great into1-2

  • No 3rd or 4th gear: “3-4” clutches are worn out. R&R. The car is safe to drive (in 2) until you can get it fixed.

Check to see if your transmission is in the limp mode, which would only give you 2nd, 3rd and reverse gears. No 1st or 4th gear.

Losing power and getting sluggish

First check transmission fluid. If you have a lot of miles its a good idea to change fluid and filter. Also the fluid in rear end. Hope this helps and have a good day.

Sluggish acceleration, hard gear shift

There is a vaccum assist module on the transmission, which uses alot of vaccum and helps control your shifts, check that vaccum line at the intake manifold and the transmission to make sure it is connected, this line being off can cause you alot of problems,
The battery, check to make sure your cables are in good shape and connections are tight and clean, make sure you put the new belt on right.
If you have it on wrong you could be spinning the alternator backwards, then it would'nt charge.

Sluggish Tranny through 1st and 2nd, when I get to 3rd it is fine?

Transmission seems to be slipping and may need to be rebuilt. This transmission may be stuck in a high gear and the on way to repair is to have it rebuilt. Good luck and thanks for using FIX YA
