I am assuming that this comming in through the fresh air duct. You most likley have a bad exhaust flang gasket. You really need to get this fixed as we don't want you getting sleepy behind the wheel doing 70mph down the hwy. Open the hood and try to listen for the leak.

SOURCE: i have a 1987 mustang. it has a holley 650

exhaust gases collecting inside vehicle can be deadly.exhaust system should exit at rear of body,or at least to the outside[sidepipes]visit or an auto parts/muffler shop for pipes to route over the rear axle & out.check for leaks at connections,do not idle for long periods with windows closed until problem is resolved.

SOURCE: 1997 Honda Civic EX: Exhaust fumes coming inside

hi, this might help you:

at first make sure your air system is set to take the inside air of the car. this is the button with the car on it with above this little car a circular arrow like as if air circulates only within the car, or like the air from the outside wont circulate inside the car.

if not:

if possible get a expert to do a check up of the body/chassis, it might be in a condition where rust has made wholes in eg a part under your seat.

it might also be that something is wrong with the ventilation part of your honda, like 'tubes' are leaking within the engine bay or??? something like that.

ive had a honda, not this problem, but i think it'll be something with the isolation and or the plates between the chassis 'bars'....

hope you'll find a solution soon.

Air vent schematic

air for the inside of the car comes from the vent at the base of the windscreen or is recirculated inside the car
if you see what appears to be mist, fog or smoke from the ac vents ,it is extra cold air from the ac system that is seen as fog when it hits the air in the car
you will know exhaust fumes by the smell

Stop my van getting fumes inside the car

Do you have an exhaust leak? That is usually the way fumes start getting into the car. Take it to someplace like Midas. They will do a free inspection of your exhaust system. If they do find a leak, and I suspect that they will, take it around to someone you trust, or get different estimates, as Midas is very expensive.

My 1994 dodge caravan has a slight exhaust smell inside the car while running. any ideas?

Three things come to mind. You may have an exhaust system leak. Or, the rear hatch is not closing good, or not sealing properly, allowing exhaust fumes to enter the rear compartment. If you drive with the rear windows open, the exhaust fumes will be drawn into the vehicle while the vehicle is moving. Just some ideas on where to look for the source of the fumes. Don't take the problem lightly. The fumes can be deadly, or at the very least, make you ill.

Fumes escaping from ac vents inside vehicle while driving and leaves a film residue on inside of windshield whenever the heat or defrost are used.

Hello dedunwoodie.
Your heater core is beginning to leak coolant.
As the fan blows through it it is picking up the liquid and depositing it on your windshield.
It will need to be replaced to solve your problem.
