Your altenator may need to be changed. Most part stores will test it for free.

Charge the battery or jump start it. When the alternator dies, the car runs off the battery and drains it. Older batteries can recoup fast enough.

I have a problem with fuel shortage or Lowe voltage. coast to lite excel oration.


driving , or parked, engine on or off. (sure key on)
please post full clear symptoms.
post all the car does good and bad.
parked, idling and driving.

my guess is, you were driving, then looked at the cluster
  1. and the fuel level dropped fast. (power loss 12vdc that is)
  2. and the voltage gauge, dropped,(well it didnt lie , it did drop)
  3. this means the battery charge is too low, and falling.
  4. the battery is bad. or
  5. the charge system( I never said to replace a part) is bad.
  6. or the battery lugs are rusty. clean them.
battery is 12.6vdc rested, engine off
battery volts running is 13.3 to 15vdc, , if not charge system is upset or battery so bad the charge system shuts down.

NEW BATTERY BUT LOSSES CHARGE


Usually if if your alternator is good, once you had the engine running, disconnect the battery. If the car keeps on running then the alternator is good. You may also need to use a voltmeter to measure the voltages before and after starting the car. The voltage should increase once the engine is running. The alternator may be weak or your are draining power either through a gadget installed in a car or bad wiring that you may need to inspect your wiring.

Is the charging system working? With the engine running at a fast idle and a voltmeter connected to the battery you should see readings of 14-14.5 volts.

How is your charging system? Sounds to me like it's not charging your battery, so it runs until the battery cannot support the ignition load.

Dodge Dakota charging issues


You put pulleys on to increase power , but slowed down the alternator. Theres your sign. At idle speed the alternator isnt spinning fast enough to charge. So you can put original pulley back on, or a smaller alternator pulley.

Loss of charge on 91 loyale station wagon


the regulator is in the alternator. it sounds like it isn't charging the battery anymore. battery voltage should be around 14 volts with engine running. also check connections at alternator to battery. have seen corrosion here keep the battery from charging
