Question about 2004 Cadillac Escalade Esv

New Spark plugs

Planning on going on a long trip and decided to do my own tune up. The spark plugs I had were 2 years old.

I just replaced my spark plugs (Denso Platinum TT) and spark plug wires. The engine is now running rough. The check engine light started flashing and now stays on. I set the gap at .44 (based on Advance Auto Technician). Not sure what to do to fix this. Don't have a lot ofmoney. Can I fix this without having to take it to the shop. Thank youin advance!

Sincerely,
Trying to save a buck

Check your wires to make sure they are connected to the proper plugs, if a couple are mixed up, the car will run as you described. My source says the gap should be .040, not enough to cause the problem though. Firing order should be 1-8-7-2-6-5-4-3

Replace the plugs with AC Delco plugs. GM engines are designed to run on GM plugs and for some reason the engine runs rough with other makers spark plugs. When using the GM plugs be extremely careful when checking the gap because you will knock off the platinum tip.

NEEDS A TUNE UP, DONT SEE SPARK PLUGS

Tune-ups have been long gone for 25 years now

All that is left from those days are spark plugs

I hate to tell you this, but 80% of the vehicles out
there, have had their spark plugs under the ignition
coils for about 15 years,so you have some catching
to do

You can only have have plugs in the sides of a cylinder
head where you can see them, or you can conclude you
have a hemi or top mount spark plugs & the coils are on top

Spark Plugs get replaced every 3 years

The coils you have, only last about 6 to 7 years,
then misfire & eventually ruin the exhaust converter

Your 2005 vehicle:
Should be due for the 3rd set of spark plugs
The 3rd or 4th trans & power steering fluid change (Never Flush)
MAF Sensor gets cleaned at least once a year
Every 3 years--Air Filter,Gas Filter,Cabin Filter
At 100,000 miles you replace the front Oxygen Sensors
At least twice a year you pick up a mechanic & go for a ride
You drive they look at scan tool data, fuel trim,O2,Maf etc

Tune up

You need to study or research info on tune-ups
Basically it is a sales pitch, as only spark plugs are left
& tune-ups stopped 25 years ago from a technical perspective
Your not actually tuning anything
You replacing old spark plugs, gas & air filter etc, that has been
called preventative maintenance for over 20 years
For the last 30 years the vehicles Computer does all the
engine tuning

How to do a tune up 2004 lincoln navigator

Tune-ups have been gone for most of the last 25 years or more

Your vehicle only has spark plug left from those days

Remove the COP Ignition Coils & replace the plugs
using the champion one piece ones

Go to google & see all the problems with your motor
& the OEM two piece spark plugs

They needed to come out of the motor the day it was sold
brand new,read up on that

1995 geo prizm has no spark

like 10 ways to check spark, 1 being right.(DIY)
using a real spark plug, new as a test spark plug. x4
or #2 way with a pro spark gap tool that shows the energy level
how did you do it.?

no spark at all 4 spark plugs?
some have 4 COPS. does yours, and are all 4 dead?
question 2, when did it last run, right, yesterday or 5 years ago
and were things messed with , like a new timing belt.
and that brings up, does the cams turn.? if not you skipped the 60k tune up with belt.

this car is a 1.8L 7A-FE toy engine. you can fix it the same why.
and get great help with gen7 toy forums...
when posting state country, Canada cars (geo) are different
and state what engine, 1.6 or 1.8.. i think its 1.8 if USA
in USA the EPA mandated the 1.8 in 1995. but? country ?ou never said.
the 1.8 1995 has what is called an integrated ignition assembly
it has 7/8 low voltage pins (trigger signals from ECU)
it's very unique.
96 changes are radical here in usa for OBD2 (EPA rules)
see the spark tests here. (i hate AZ but not their docs)

their logic has 1 failing , does it fail for 1 cylinder or all 4
this is the #1 logic path after checking cam spins.

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/repairinfo/repairguide/repairGuideContent.jsp?pageId=0900c1528006ef7b
Cops means DIS, Coil over plugs. and is Distributor less ignition.
the below toy idea is an odd compromise from old to new tech.
dizzy> then below oddity, then >cops. (history flow)
now MY way. (no cops, and only on this motor this year, uSA)

spark test:
1: does the twin cam spin? yes/no, if no, stop and fix that.
2: is spark timing (light) good on #1 or degrees.
yes, good, if dead skip to next
no, then the timing belt slipped, owner dont do 60k mile tunes. !!!
2: is spark dead, on 1,? only? yes, bad spark wire, or you using
a bad test spark plug, never do that, use a fresh test spark plug
and keep it in the tool box. (life time )
2a: dead one , the integrated, spark assy. is bad. 7/8 wire unit.
3:a; dead on all cylinders. (are you following me?)
bad inegrated module.
or bad inputs to it. there are 7 inputs (and ground)
no power to it. no 12v.
the inputs 7 wires are timing. if those are bad, then bingo'
then read the AZ page.

I don't know where the plugs are in my towncar. 4.6 2001. I have a miss in the motor . I have not had it tuned up as they say you can go 100.000 . I have 93,000. Or should I take it to the shop?

No where does it say you can go 100,000 miles on any product

Spark Plugs ---get changed at 60,000 miles & not over 3 years
O2 Sensor--- the front ones only-- get changed at 100,000 miles
Trans & Power Steering Fluids --- get changed on ALL Vehicles
every 30,000 miles NEVER over 3 years ( ever )
Brake Fluid --ALL Vehicles every 2 years

No such thing as a tune- up (spark plugs --only)
Computers have done the tuning since 1980 some 32
model years

Plugs are under the COP Ignition Coils
Remove Coils,then Plugs

My 2004 mercury monteray is experiencing jerking while driving up inclines. I changed the fule filter and it was real dirty when i took it off and replaced with a new one, it went away for about 3 weeks...

Spark Plugs--change every 3 years, not over 70,000 miles
Bad EGR Valve
Ignition Misfires
Worn out O2 Sensors---- change front 2 at 100,000 miles
Clean MAF Sensor-----clean- once or twice a year

Your trans failed, because the fluid has to be
changed every 3 years,30,000 miles ,power
steering also 3 years

How do i perform a tune up on a 2003 jeep liberty sport V-6 2WD do i just replace the spark plugs because I haven't worked on a jeep before please help?

That is about it, Spark plugs are rare, they go 100,000 miles, plus, now days, air filter, oil, belts, fluids. Belts get checked, but only get replaced at 60,000. That is about it. Hope this helps.

How often do i need to get a tune up and what parts do i need to buy for the tune up?

once or twice a year is good for an actual tune up which is new fuel filter, plugs, plug wires, & antifreeze.
About every other year, you should replace tranny fluid and filter. Not bad idea to have coolant and tranny flushed every 2-3 years too.
