I have a 2001 Jetta VR6. The clutch has very little play

I have a 2001 Jetta VR6. The clutch has very little "play". It engages and disengages in a very small amount of pedal movement down very close to the floor board. Is there any kind of adustment possible on the Jetta VR6? If so, how is it done?

The Jetta III has a cable operated clutch with automatic adjustment. Please ignore the statement about the slave cylinder as this does not apply to your vehicle (VW expert... bah humbug).

Unfortunately, if the clutch operates only with your foot near the floorboard this would suggest that the automatic adjuster has stopped functioning (its a rather simple little thing consisting of two sleeves and a bunch of balls). The only solution would be replacing the cable. Be carefuls of pirate parts, since my experience suggests that pirate clutch cables do not work well at all on these cars.

It is also possible that the link the cable attaches to on the gearbox side has rotated on it's splines. This is however unlikely.

Also ignore the statement about the clutch plate being due for replacement, as a clutch adjusts itself 'upwards' (releases earlier in the travel of the pedal) as the friction lining of the clutch plate wears out.

So it engages at the end of the push or just when your foot is about to leave the pedal if it is all the way to the end when your foot is down to the floor this could mean that you have a leak in your slave cylinder or the clutch is just about to the end of its life. repair would be replacement.

98 golf clutch pedal went to the floor. Car would not engage any gear. Fixed cable so pedal now feels good but still won't engage I can move gear lever any where, release pedal but nothing happens.

What do you mean when you say you fixed the cable. It sounds like the cable broke and you replaced it. Is that correct. If so, did you adjust the free play in the clutch pedal to the manufacturers specification. If you have not done this correctly the clutch will either not disengage, or no engage properly. From your description it appears as though there is n free play and hence the clutch is staying disengaged even when you release the clutch pedal. If this is the case, then try lengthening the cable until the clutch pedal moves with say 25 mm of free movement before anything happens, and try again.

What problems does an alternator cause in a 2001 vr6 jetta

if its not fully generating power you will have dim lights and eventually after a while the battery will not charge enough to start the car. not sure of the voltage for a volkswagon but most other cars it generating about 14 on the guage in the car, you can have it tested for free at any decent auto parts place, pep boys, auto zone or advance auto parts to name a few.

Elantra 2001, A/C compressor clutch engages and disengages every 2 sec. When i first start the engine I got cool air then, after the engine is hot, the problem starts and bye bye cool air!

The a/c clutch engages then disengages intermittently with the Hyundai's a/c system when there is little or no refrigerant in the system.

Have your a/c refrigerant (R134 or R12) checked and refilled, and have the system inspected for leaks.

Hope this helps.

Can't shift when car is cold

I have a1998 VW jetta vr6 glx with the same problem and living in New England it gets really cold, but i did some research and it worked.... With the car in neutral and the E-break engaged, reach down and pull up on the clutch pedal, thus "resetting" the tension in the cable, it will be a bit higher on your foot and the release/engage point will be higher as well but i did this when it was 10*f and i could not get any gear, after pulling up on the clutch, shifts with ease,,,, such a relief

Cost to replace clutch in 2000 VW Jetta

from what is was told locally is that it would be around $800 - $1000 and can take just around a full day to do. it is not a quick job, so labor costs can be high and the price of parts play a big factor in it just because it is a vw.
