Thank you for the follow-up. I have narrowed it down to the security system i think. I have no spark and my red light on the dash does not blink when i set the alarm like it use to. horn sounds but no blink. When i turn the key to on the gas empty light comes on (i do have plenty of gas) and about 20 seconds later the red light for my security system comes on and stays on. This 97 model does not use the special key with the sensor in it. any ideas? thanks much.

Which engine? Many many possible reasons. Fist-- is it getting spark? Is it getting fuel? It can have both present but the spark is at the wrong time or there is not enough or, too much fuel. Not enough info for a helpful answer. I recommend a technician-- at least to find the cause.

1997 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4.0L V6 Last time it started it ran really rough, head lights wouldn't come on, gauges malfunctioned, then it died. Now I have no firing even from the coil and fuel pump not...

check the battery for full charge, you should have a minimum of 12.4 volts, once its charged ( I'd have a parts store do a LOAD test on it ) start the vehicle, and check the posts again, it should be giving you a reading of 13.5 to 14.5 volts,, if not, and you've cleaned all the contacts you have a bad alternator

1997 jeep grand cherokee laredo replace collapsed lifter 4.0l il6

What motor do you have? The V8, you can remove just the intake manifold and the valve covers/rocker arms to remove the lifter. The V6, I believe you need to remove the head to access the lifters.

You will probably find the fuel filter inside the fuel tank attached to the fuel pump.

I need to locate where the Speedometer Cable is located in my 1997 Jeep Cherokee Country V6 4WD.

Seen some on the trans tailshaft and some on the transfer case. It's not a cable, its a wire....Works like the little generator we used to put on bicycles to power a headlight...faster it goes, the more output...Spedometer head is pretty much a big voltmeter with numbers on it. I've also heard that some are like a revolution counter like they use on machines in factories. (don't know that for sure.) Also don't know what year they started using it, so I could be wrong on what it is but not where!
