This could be a bad ignition relay or if you have an alarm on the vehicle pull the fuse out of the alarm circuit and see if the vehicle will start. I had a problem once where the cable to the starter solenoid had grounded out and it did that to me when I tried to start the vehicle. Finally, it could be a bad ignition switch.

No key switch can still use the electrical end but car will not turn over but you can pull start it

first you have to make sure full batt power available, second turn the key (if any) to on position . third jump contacts on the starter motor to create power circulation and hear if starter o selonoid works.

My 92 taurus wont start, you turn the key all the power works, but no clicks,no sound, nothing.. I have checked all fuses, all good... has a new battery that is charged... Is there a relay or selonoid...

Start with your connections to battery and starter, Also check your ground from your battery. Make sure it's not working lose. Then you can check see if getting power to starter, If you are getting power to your starter and it does'nt turn over Replace starter, The selonoid comes with it . You can get a aftermarket "rebuilt" for about $40Good luck to you hope this helps some.

Sometimes my montero wont start from the key but if you cross over the stater it will always start. what could cause this?

The part that makes the connection when you turn the switch is a selonoid, in most cases it is part of the starter. Check with a part store to see if you can replace the selonoid or if you will have to replace the complete starter.

Car clicks when trying to start but won't turn over. Battery will hold a charge but i can not start it

The "click" you hear is the selonoid or starter switch making contact so the engine will start. I suggest you take the starter with the starter selonoid attached to a parts supplier and have them test for a bad selonoid.

I suggest you stand next to the person checking the unit. It will keep him honest and you just got a free lesson on how to test a starter and selonoid.

let me know what you think

Car won't start. its got a hot battery. Turn key, dash lights up but does nothing, not even click. got under car to ckeck starter used screwdriver on selonoid and it turned over fine. turn key switch...

If your car rolls over when you short the selonoid then the possibilities are limited.
The most likely is your neutral safety switch
the others are the ignition switch or damaged wiring.

Starter won't turn over,I shorted selenoid with screwdriver and it kicked in selenoid and started,,ok bad selonoid,,I just replaced with new starter and selonoid,,still won't kick seloniod in,,shorting...

That wire may be coming from a relay so you may need a service manual to find which one it is.
BTW, to save frying all of your screwdrivers, applying 12 volts for a moment to the terminal with the smaller gauge wire will cause the solenoid to operate as it was designed. Shorting across the main solenoid terminals lets ~ 100-200 amps flow through your screwdriver which isn't even a very good conductor.
Even a light clip lead to the coil terminal of the solenoid could handle the lower current that flows there.
For purposes of doing several different engine tasks, I made up a momentary pushbutton switch contraption housed in a plastic film canister, put 6' wires and heavy clips on it so I could 'jiggle' an engine into the next cycle.

Will not start

Check all of the battery terminals and cables and check the wires on the starter/selonoid, start from the battery and follow the cable out and check all conections , clean and tighten them and if it still does it the starter/selonoid is bad and needs replacement...
