Question about 1986 Toyota MR2

1986 MR2 manual NA shuts off while driving (not clutch/technique)

I have a 1986 Manual N/A MR2 and recently the engine shuts off on its own WHILE I am driving after about 10 minutes or so on the road and requires ~15 mins parked before the engine will turn on again (with a short time limit before it'll cut off again). This is not caused by poor technique with the clutch. I've run the engine idle in the garage and it did not cut off at all after running it for 30 minutes, so it seems to only shut off after being driven for a few minutes. I've tried reving when I felt the cut off coming during driving to try to prevent it cutting off but with no luck. Spark plugs are brand new Denso Iridium however I've been suggested to change spark plug wires. What do you guys think? Thanks!

I would look more to the fuel pump failing than plug wires.

Sounds like two issues. The O2 sensor would definitely do the light coming on and off (I have that problem on my MR2 currently). You can jumper the diagnostic ports to flash a trouble code on the dash (my O2 sensor is number 5). And, no, it should not cause the engine to shut off (it automatically uses default air/fuel ratios) I would make sure, however, that there is no bare wire touching somewhere. Now, the other problem sounds like an electrical issue, but it could be caused by heat - what happens with spirited driving at non-highway speeds for the same period of time?

Clutch help!!!!

Every clutch has a "throw-out bearing", and the proper term is Release bearing.

You should purchase a good quality complete clutch kit, and make sure that the clutch kit also comes with the pilot bearing as well. Be sure that they re-machine your flywheel to restore proper clutch operation.

Here is a link for you check out for yourself, and you can see that the release bearing and pilot bearing are both included in these clutch kits. You should then be able to purchase a new clutch kit from your local parts store.

Before you start looking a the fuse box, make sure of 2 things: do you have power and a good ground at the light housing. Then, make sure that the door switches are grounded good, and are actually working. If no power, get back to me and I will get you to the fuse box, altho I doubt that the fuse box is the root cause.
