2001 Ford Focus Jerks While Shifting

I have this Ford Focus and each time I drive it, all the way from 1st to 5th it will ****. The more gas I apply the better it goes. It's almost like I'm shifting into the wrong gear sometimes. Only in 5th will it stop.

It will not do this when I'm down shifting. And it won't do it in idle. Only when the car is starting go to.
The RPM meter will bounce up and down and it made me think it was the timing belt/chain/serpentine belt. Can't be sure which one I have. I've had another car that would do that when some of the teeth were missing it would **** upon accelertating.

I drive a 2012 Ford Focus and I noticed when I am taking off from a complete stop it jerks violently but after it gets out of 1st it drives fine can anyone tell me why please?

The first thing you need to do is have the engine control module scanned for fault codes, you may have an engine misfire. Autozone does this testing for free.

When stopped gears sometime grind when shifting into 1st gear(2001 Ford Focus)

Then the clutch is not releasing properly & the continual
grinding will wear the gear teeth & you may also have worn
syncros, that will require you to pull the trans & go thru it, as well
as do a clutch replacement

Does overdrive effect the gas usage in a 2003 Ford Focus

Yes. Overdrive helps get better milage in all vehicles. It is simply put, just an extra gear. When you go through 1st, then 2nd, 3rd, then OD (in automatic - 5th gear in manual)

All it does is allow the engine to run at lower speed while maintaining crusing speed. It does not have a lot of power, it's notsupposed to. It is to save fuel at higher speeds, particularly over distance travel..

In city driving it can slow the changing of gears. Better to turn it off for more low speed control.

My ford focus tdi 2003 cant select 1st,3rd or 5th gears.

Car is in limp in mode unless you have the tools to work on automatic transmission you will need to take it to a transmission shop. Of course you can check oil level but I suspect you have other issues.

Can't select 1st, 3rd or 5th

Something is not installed correctly. You have something blocking the shifting arm. Double check the installation and make sure you have the connections correct and that nothing is blocking the travel of the shifting mechanism.

06 ford focus 5spd. no 1st, 3rd, or 5th gear.

It sound like the gear linkage isn,t set up right, you wouldn,t always be able to engage a gear unless you rocked the car.

2001 ford focus jerks when gas applied while driving

Safely, take your car on a highway or street ( dry pavement ) with no cars or other persons around. Stop the car, proceed to approx. 20 Km/h. Then push the gas pedal down close to the floor, if the car bucks and chucks change the fuel filter and retest. If the problem is still present, I recommend the fuel pump. Have it checked first.

Drivetrain problems

you know some mustangs have an adjustment system on the clutch pedal, and might need adjustment, or if you install a rebuilt clutch instead of a new one some times they come unbalance and vibrate if you did just never again trust a rebuilt clutch kit
