Your sending unit inside of the fuel tank is probably faulty. Unfortunately you have to drop the tank to change it.

If you rock your pickup back in forth when you have fuel in your tank with the key on see if it eventually changes as you rock your pickup. If it changes it probably is no doubt the fuel sending unit.

Fuel guage sometimes read empty when there is gas in the tank?

Check that there are no holes in the float. If the fuel is getting into the float, it will give a false reading. Another thing is to check the ground on the float sensor. If it's not connected tightly, it will create a false reading too.

Gas gauge is not registering level consistently . level changes up and down. i fill gas tank up and it will go down to a3/4 of a tank fairly accuratly then gets erraic, going to full and back 3/4 very...

sounds like its time for a new sendinding unit, this is the part that hold the fuelpump inside the tank, and has a float arm, this is what tell you how much gas is in the tank, heres a picture of it,this comes with everything even the pump, also make sure to wire in the new connector, these trucks have connector problem, good luck.also check the ground that go to that connector, follow them, may go to rear frame on the leftside, remove and clean them.d2f4ba0.jpg

Grand prix gas gauge not working

should be a grey wire going to the top of fuel tank connects to fuel guage / when the guage in the tank reads grounded it shows full , no ground it shows empty. if you ground that grey wire and the guage jumps to full then faulty guage if nothing maybe bad ground on the tank itself. the guages are a reostat like a tyco race car gun the more it moves the more it grounds .. good luck

It is not that hard to replace the sending unit. It is inside the tank and should cost around $75. It would be best to try this when the tank is empty and have someone close by for help. You will need fuel line disconnect tools and basic hand tools. It takes a skilled mechanic about 2 hours. Good Luck .
