I am having trouble with my 2000 VW Beetle windshield wiper. Can you tell me if there is a relay for this, and if so-where is it located? Thanks

Hi and thanks-I found where the fuse is but I can not find where the relay panel is! Where is that located?

    Thanks

  • chasirvingma Sep 10, 2009

I opened up behind the fuse box and I can see a few relay switches and I also see a 4 x 6-black box that has 2 plugs attached to it. Can you help me more in finding the right sensor.

    Thanks-Chas

  • chasirvingma Sep 10, 2009

Yes that was very helpful. Just to confirm what you told me. The box that is approximately 4 x 6 inches and has 2 plugs in it is the intermittent relay? I was looking for a "normal size" relay. Can you tell me in your experiences do these relay boxes go bad easily, and if so-do they go bad before the actual windshield wiper motor and/or windshield wiper setting handle on steering wheel?

Also, how do I know if the relay is bad?

Yes-he was very helpful with the windshield wiper relay.

It is also under the left side of the dash by the fuse panel maybe behind the fuse panel. The relay is either relay # 5 or # 6 from left to right

Where is the wiper relay located on a 2000 Ford Windstar

There are two relay's located in the under hood fuse / relay box . Windshield wiper on / off relay an windshield wiper speed relay .Both relay's are controlled by the FEM - front electronic module . The prudent thing to do would be to take to a qualified repair shop that has a professional type scan tool to check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes rather then play a guessing game . Changing parts that don't fix the problem . The wiper switch is a input to the ( FEM ) when an input is seen the (FEM) then energizes the relay's .

Posted as a 2000 VW Beetle, but the fuse panel should be located on the side of the dash just inside the driver's door. There should also be a fiuse diagram on the fuse door panel, as well as in the back of the Owner's Manual.

Check the fuses under the hood for corroision. They should be locarted on the right hand side looking under the hood. I have a 2000 beetle that I was having problems with. technicans check everything and said all was o.k.. I found a fuse that was burnt up and cover with corroison. I cleaned the terminals replaced the fuse and have had no more problems.
