Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Expedition and I believe I have a coolant leak and I can see that all the coolant that I add to the coolant plastic tank trickles down over transmission housing next to the oil pan. What could be the problem?

Don't overfill the coolant resevoir when adding coolant. There is a cold and hot fill line on the resevoir. Excess coolant will spill out through overflow tube on resevoir.

Coolant leak,

Strange but do you think a hose has a pin hole that is spraying coolant up?
check the inner hood for over spray.
Clean the engine then drive it & look for more obscure places that might be wet.

Coolant light is blinking

If you are saying that it comes on now and then, and goes off, your may just need to add Anti-freeze/boil to the overflow tank. Does it come on when you're coming to a stop or going up or down a hill, if yes, add coolant to the overflow tank to bring it up to the correct level, not the radiator.

A small loss over a long period of time is acceptable, but constant refilling, indicates a leak either internally, with the coolant exiting through the exhaust, or one that you should see under your car occasionally. Sometimes you'll find your coolant leak in the floorboards if the heater core or hose leaks.

If your sensor comes on after driving a while & goes off as a result of adding coolant, then you'll probably need to pressure test the cooling system to identify where the coolant is going. Bad hose, seal, headgasket, head, etc.

Where does antifreeze go in a 2000 pontiac grand am

Remove the radiator cap & see if it is full

There will be a rad cap somewhere, even if not
on the rad it's self

Add to the plastic recovery tank, like on all vehicles
It will be marked & you can see the color of the coolant

No fluids are consumed on any motor vehicle
If you have to add to any fluid, you have a leak to fix

Low coolant light flashing.where do i add antifreeze? i see i large plastic overflow container with what i believe said dexcool? there

Yes that is where you add coolant, but the sensor may be bad if the coolant level is within the lines on the tank marked Hot and Cold

Coolant concentration when radiater water evaporates: My car is Ford explorer 2000.It is recomended a mixture of 50% water 50% coolant. But the extra water in the plastic bag (or what ever is called)...

that is called the recovery tank and the level should not go down, if u keep seeing the tanks level drop then u have a coolant leak in the system, when u do top the system off ALWAYS USE 50%

How do i take off the radiator cap?

WHATEVER YOU DO NEVER TOUCH THE CAP OR ADD ANY FLUIDS TO THE VEHICLE WHILE THE CAR IS HOT,WHY? ITS DANGEROUS AND YOU WILL DAMAGE THE VEHICLE.

NOW ON A COLD ENGINE USE A SCREW DRIVER TO LIFT OFF THE LATCH ON THE CAP AND PRESS DOWN ONIT AND TURN IT COUNTER CLOCKWISE. ADD YOU COOLANT AND WATER MIXTURE OR WATER. PUT CAP BACK ON AND PREES DOWN AND TURN IT CLOCKWISE TO CLOSE.

I BELIEVE YOU HAVE A PLASTIC RECOVERY TANK ON THIS VEHICLE . YOU DON'T HAVE TO PUT COOLANT ON THREW RADIATOR YOU CAN JUST DO IT THREW THE RECOVERY TANK.

2002 honda civic water is blowing out of the coolant tank

Sorry to hear all this has been going on and the obvious hasn't been detected by a shop. All those parts probably would not of had to be replaced. This is a classic systom of a blown head gasket. Not every head gasket blown will have coolant in the oil. Compression leak from a cylinder will enter water passage in head and blow out the coolant because compression is greater pressure than coolant system pressure.
