Question about 1996 Mitsubishi Galant

2 Answers

My 1996 mitsubishi galant may have a bad ground. the battery is constently dead, even with a new battery, if it sits the battery will be dead in 5 hours. i get a jump and it starts right up, but if i fail to give it gas it completely dies. turn signals make the RPM meter twitch along with them and braking and such is also causes the car to die. to brake i have to put it in nuetral and give it gas while im stopped. i also noticed for the first time today that I may be missing a gear. i put it in over drive on the highway, but when i get to about 4000 rpm and 80 mph it peaks out. if i give it more gas my mph drops and my rpm shoot to 5500.

You need to get the charging system and battery tested. Most places charge about $40 for this service. Only takes a few minutes to complete but it will be money well spent. Then you can do the replacement parts yourself if you inclined.

Installed new battery on 2006 Galant and it still wont crank the engine. Put Jumpers on and it starts. Whats the problem?

If you're jumping with the jumper neg lead on engine block (like you should) then you have a bad ground lead.
If you are jumpering to the battery terminals then the connection to the battery itself is bad. Clean the battery connector terminals.

I have a 01 galant gtz with 117,000 and I was caught out in heavy rain which I had to drive home thru. When I got home my car turned over, but the second time I got nothing. The battery is good but when...

sounds like you have a loose or bad ground wire to your starter. those clicks are the sound of your starter relay not getting enough juice. i had a similar problem i even bought a new battery. turns out my battery connections were corroded. also even a bad battery will read 12 volts and accept a charge from the alternator but will not hold a charge for very long. check the amps at your local parts shop they will tell you better. if you can eliminate the battery as your problem then it has to be a bad connection. does your starter sound like its lagging or sluggish? if so its a bad starter.

My 99 mitsubishi galant won,t start battery is brand new and it still won't start it clicks like the battery is dead I even tired jumping starting land it still won't start

either you have a bad connection to your battery or,, you have a bad starter. no other solution. if it clicks when you try to start it and the batterys fully charged, you're getting fire to the starter and it's trying to start, but the starter bendix isn't kicking out.which means it's a bad starter. thank you for choosing fixya.com

Will not start

bad silonoid on starter
the actual cable on starter is bad even though you replaced the positive battery connector the whole cable could be bad
also your new battery might not be a heat battery example= a battery that cannot handle heat and will die on you this indicates a dead cell in battery
bad alternator not charging battery
bad ignition coil
scorched spark plug wiring
dead cell in battery even though the battery can show good it can still be bad
battery's these days are usually refurbished battery's practically every one recycles batterys so its a chance that you got a bad battery try a jump then while vehicle running disconnect the positive post of battery if vehicle dies its the alternator

i myself had to do a battery swap 4 times before i got a refurbished battery without a dead cell this something that is a pain but once you get a good battery then everything should work
