Who ever replaced the belt had his head in his 4 point of contact. Unless it was you. If you intent to correct it yourself when you go into the engine you will see two small alignment marks one should go at the top the other at the bottom. But first you mus locate dop dead center. Do this by removing the #1 plug and rotate the engine until you feel pressure on your finger, or better place a screw driver into the hole instead of your finger turn the engine by hand until the piston pushes the screw driver to its utmost top position. Replace the plug and wire and then line up the two marks, ensuweing one is at the top the other at the bottom. Hope this helps.

My 2001 xterra started making a weird sound between 20 and 35 mph. It sounds like there is a leak in some pressure system.

Common Car Noises and Their Likely Causes Noise More Details Likely Cause Fixing It Clicking noise while turning Starts faint, gradually becomes more noticeable until very loud Failed outer CV joint (constant velocity joint) due to torn boot (most likely) or old age Replace either the whole axle assembly (recommended) or the outer CV joint Water pump noises Difficult to diagnose because of water pump's location Noise usually caused by damage to the bearings in failed water pump Only cure is replacing it. If possible do it at the same time as a timing belt replacement to cut down on labor costs Squeak or squeal from an engine belt Loud, high-pitched squeak or squeal Belts either need adjustment or replacing If belts only squeak when damp, they probably just need adjustment. If they squeak constantly, they probably need to be replaced Exhaust heat shield noises Rattle that you hear when car is idling Damaged heat shield Replace heat shield

I got into my 2006 trailblazer today and when I accellorate it make a loud squealing noise

Hi,

It sounds like the black serpentine belt. It's about $20-$40 and easy to replace. Or it could be the pulley. First check that belt.

Changed my timing belt on a 2002 focus and now it wont go past 40 mph without it wanting to stop

You have got the time wrong,it is not in time,it may seem that you timed it correctly, but it is not, when you place the timing belt in time,be sure to turn the crankshaft, two full revolutions to make sure it stays in time,do this with a socket, and ratchet,on the crankshaft pulley center bolt.

I have a 2003 mitsubishi galant with 2.4 ltr engine. it had a loud popping noise coming from timing cover. started it back up a few diff. times trying 2 pinpoint problem. last time i started it, it started...

Uh oh Clunks are a real bad sound. Valves hitting pistons etc Check crankshaft turns by handand check valve gear rockers etc. To push in tensioner put it in a vise and SLOWLY wind in There is a small hole near piston end of tensioner that you have to line up with piston and put a small allen key or nail through to retain piston untill you refit it With belt in place only then remove pin

Engine runs vehicle wont move Possible ring gear? 84 Topaz

Is it a metal shaft? When you put it in drive does it make any noise? Does the speedometer move? Does it make a loud clicking sound when you put it back in Park?

When i put it in reverse it makes a loud clunk

Hi Ali,

This sounds like one or more of your motor/powerplant mounts is broken. Here is an easy test:

Have someone sit in the driver's sear with engine running and trans. in Park.
You stand in front with the hood open. Have them shift from Park to Reverse, and then Drive and back to Reverse and Park, taking time to stay in each gear and give some throttle while holding the brake pedal tight. This will rock or move the engine a certain amount as they shift through the gears and apply power lightly. It will move alot more violently with broken mounts.

If you have a clunking noise on Reverse shifts, you should be able reproduce this with the hood up and pinpoint the noise and/or sight the faulty motor mount with a friend's help. Good luck, I hope this puts you on the right track to fixing this annoying noise.

Sincerely, Tater Todd
