2001 Sportage sputters under acceleration. Started off doing it every now and then when the engine was lugged down but now does it with every upshift. Can barely push accelerator and it runs smooth. Changed the fuel filter but did not help

On the left side of the engine look for air tubes see if you have a hole in them I used a fish tank pump and had the tubes under water to see if they leaked and also that air box off of the air intake hose also I took it off and also plugged up the hole to get better gas response.

Not enough information but sounds like you may have spun a bearing. Which means you will be engine shopping to fix it.

Hi Missippirebe, I think you should replace the fuel filter and if the problem persists check fuel pump pressure. It should be at around 3.7 bar. Regards John

2002 KIA SPORTAGE SPUTTERS WHEN TAKING OFF

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ?
It could be a coil, spark plugs, fuel pump, fuel filter, or a list of other things.

It could be a spark plug, plug wire, or a coil. Sometimes thay break down intermittently. If it needs a tuneup, that would be the first thing to do.
