When the alternator and battery failed we had them both replaced. The truck runs fine but the radio, clock etc. are blank. There are lights flashing for the bass and trebel but the radio/cd player will not respond.

3 days on a new battery, yes it is significant. Four things can do this in a short time. alternator, starter, radio, and interior lights/ light switch. Alternator can be checked on the car, A sign for the starter is that it may drag or drag sometimes. Radio is lights staying on after the door is opened,Even the clock. Light switch is interior lights don't work or the dimmer switch doesn't work. These are just suggestions that I have run across. They still need to be checked. It can get costly.
Check Alternator Voltage regulator if it fails it can send up to 18volts to the battery and make sure your battery is not too old usually most batterys will fail after around 2-3years causing the alternator to work harder . Also check your fuses someone may have put a wrong fuse somewhere. Don't buy a used alternator. Good luck.Student Mechanic LWIT Kirkland
I would be willing to bet that its your alternator thats bad. All your battery is for is to start the car and when the car is off then run the radio lights etc. If the car is running and you disconnect the battery and the car dies your alternator is bad.
check battery cables make sure they are clean and tight and make sure the alternator charging battery. first check battery volts. should be 12.6 volts. with engine running alternator out put at battery should be 13.5 - 14.5 volts. if not either alternator failed.check alternator power feed wires and voltage regulator wires for damage or make sure electrical wires has tight connection.check alternator battery.first turn off radio before before disconnecting negative battery cable.
Alternator problem, the alternator charges the battery when car is running, so it has probably died now. Was working at reduced capacity for a while, which is why you were only getting a partial charge for some time. Now you have an open circuit completely as alternator has failed completely, time for a visit to an auto electrician. PS replacing acid in battery with distilled water is not a good idea. It probably was time for a new battery anyway.
