Remove dash insulator from under glove box. then move bcm to one side, fan resistor is beside the fan blower motor. the resistor will keep fan speeds from working. remove wiring and screws from resistor then take it out.

I have a 2000 chevy blazer the blower works on 1 2 and 3 but it wont work on 4 I changed the dash switch and the resister but that didn't work

There is a relay in the under hood fuse box , blower motor relay .When switched to high it energizes the relay allowing power from the HVAC fuse /30 amp to flow direct to the blower motor. from pin 30 to pin 87 , if you look on the side of the relay there is a diagram .For all other speeds the current flows from the switch through the resistor through pin 87a to pin 30 on to the blower motor ! Check the HVAC fuse in the under hood fuse block .IF the fuse is good check for continuity between the fuse side with out B+ that means pulling the fuse and using a volt meter to see which side has power and checking the side that doesn't have power to pin 87 at the relay socket ! Probably a bad fuse or stuck relay . Pull that relay and try a different one. You can get wiring diagram at www.bbbind.com click on technical information ,then click on Technical Service Bulletins & Wiring Diagrams .then on next page go down to the bottom and click on I agree . next page click wiring diagrams ,then just fill in you vehicle information .then HVAC system . click on diagram, then you will see 7 links , click on the 5th one and that's the diagram for the blower motor circuit !

Fan motor on a 2000 Chevy Malibu only works on 3-5 and not on 1 & 2. How to fix?

Its the blower motor resistors or the switch itself.
You need shop manual. Then remove the switch and jump certain terminals with a jumper wire to see if fan runs at certain speeds. If fan runs at all speeds when jumped then the switch is your problem . if it runs at the speeds you described in your write up then its the resistors.

Blower motor or resistor?

Yes its the blower motor resistor.

More then likley theres some trash or something in it, or possibly the motor itself is on it's way out. There not that bad to pull out of that body car, just pull it out and see what you can see.

The blower motor is under the glove compartment

You can replace the resistor on your own. Please find a detailed diagram which would guide you to do it.

Removing the glove compartment & replacing the blower resister.

You do not need to remove the glove box to get to the resistor its located at the very bottom of the dash. Its held in by 1 or 2 screws. If you already bought the replacement look for the same thing underneath, a flashlight helps. Fairly simple, just have some patience. Its close the the blower motor.

Blower motor or resistor?

If it was the motor that went out then it would not blow at all. The resistor is the culprit that starts killing off speeds. It should be about $25 to $30 at an aftermarket store like autozone or advanced auto parts.

I have the same problem with my 2002 malibu and my mechanic told me it is a burnt resistor. I am not sure how hard it is to change and I am assuming it is a resistor on the fan.

fan blower resistor. Under hood near blower motor. Follow the power that goes to blower back to resistor, there should be several wires on it. That's the most LIKELY source of your problems.
