Hi I own A 98 Chevy Malibu, my ignition locked n i had to put a new ignition switch in, well now my cars tellin me Something Theft Service. Im wonder what I need to do? Iv unhooked battery for hours ect...

You need to reset the theft system. To do this, try to start it. It should start and die. Then after it dies and the theft light is flashing, leave the key on for 10 minutes. After 10 min, the theft light should go out. After the theft light goes out, turn off the key. Count to 5, then restart it. Then it should work.

This is the anti-theft PASSLOCK system. You can purchase a paslock 2 bypass system that will bypass the anti-theft othewise you will have to wait the 10 minutes with the key on the ON position and turn over immediately when anti-theft light turns off

It should take about 8minutes to reset the ignition system but if it is doing it all the time ,the pass lock in the ignition switch is toast! You have no choice but to replace the ignitin switch!

Wire diagram for a 1998 Chevy Malibu

Hello, It sounds as if the theft deterrent system is tripped. Look at the key is it worn bad? If so get a new one made at the dealer. To do a key test isert the key, turn to start and release if theft light comes on leave key alone in the on position ten minutes after you try to start never turn off after you yurn to start it puts it in a certain mode, and do not bother it for about 12 minutes. When you come back to car turn switch off then turn to start and it should start thank you. Please rate this answer, thank you.
