Question about Ford Explorer

1 Answer

I have a 94 Explorer that I have recently put a new MAS on. (I did take the battery cable off to reset the computer) Not long after that the vehicle started surging. Either at a stop or moving, when at a stop and at 500 PM it will jump to 1500 RMP and back down again. Same is true when driving. I have changed out the plugs ad wires. I have also put on a new Throttle Position sensor and Idle vaulve sensor, which didn't work. So I put the old ones back on. One thing I have noticed is that when you start the car in the morning, it imediatly idles at 400-500 RPM. I don't recall it doing that in the past. It would usually idle a little hagher then kick down. Any thoughts on this would be appreciated. Thanks Pete

If you replaced mas then u need to reset ECU..removing the battery does not always clear the memory..you need a diagnostic tool here to reset this...

look for a software called digimotolite which you can google and download for free. Then go on ebay.com and look for a cable called ELM327 which will cost around 15-20 usd..and there you go you got yourself a diagnostic device worth 3000 usd or more.Once connected you will see it gives you a lot of reading and reset options...This is your solution...

How do i reset my alarm on my 1999 ford explorer

If it starts and runs, it's not the security. Most common things I have found to drain the battery are. The alternator(even though it is putting out the voltage), the starter, the interior lights(wiring here) and the radio (Internal problems)

2004 explorer will not start, PATS light blinks normally, but when key inserted, blinks faster.

First get safety glasses, put vehicle in park, set parking brake.,BLOCK WHEELS....Disconnect negative battery cable for 10 seconds to reset computer system....reconnect cable..make sure all fuses/relays are operable..make sure it has fuel in tank...Turn ignition and listen for fuel pump to engage..If all works well try to start it...If not..get a long..2 or 3 foot jumper cable to by-pass ignition system..have a helper to turn ignition switch on but do not try to start it..Be safe..get under vehicle..,attach jumper wire to hot post at starter and small S-wire at top of starter solenoid..make sure alligator clips are tight...As soon as you touch them it should crank....If it does the problem is in ignition system.....YOU HAVE TO STAY CLEAR OF FAN AND ALL MOVING BELTS AND COMPONENTS WHILE UNDER VEHICLE !!!.......If no luck write me back.....BROOKS....

How do i reset the engine light on a 1994 ford explorer 4x4 v-6

To reset the ECU or the car computer, you'll need a diagnosetic and scanner device or the new OBD-I/OBD-II. These devices are use to troubleshoot the automobiles and tells you the problem by codes. If you don't have one of these devices, here is what you do. Remove the neg. or positive battery cable any one of them, then make a spark by touching the cable to the battery pole that you remove until you don't see any spark then put it back. But before you do this make sure the car key is off.

ON MY 94 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE the new alternator is not charging batt and when you take off positive cable it shut s the motor down . . .i thought it was supposed to srtay running

Wow. No, you need both cables on the battery for the vehicle to tun, and taking a cable off while it is running is potentially dangerous to you and to the vehicle. You can damage the computer and certain electronic components by doing that, including the alternator.

How do you know the alternator is not working? Did you measure voltage at the battery with the vehicle off and the with the vehicle running? The difference should be a volt or two, dependeing on the ambient temperature and condition of the battery.

Recently i have the battery check on my uncle's explorer 2006 but after that the car radio/stereo is asking for a code, what do i do now?

you'll need to go to the dealer
they will have the tools to access the code from the vehicles computer

assuming your uncle is the original owner and he still has the owners manual and folder that came with the vehicle then the code should be on a tag there

good luck and keep us posted

Recently slid into a fence durring ice/snow storm.

I'd say the linkage is a little bit off and the shifter is not quite putting the linkage in the park position. To confirm this you might try pushing and or pulling on the shifter a little bit as you trying to start the vehicle.

I replaced the mas cyl 2004 ford explorer. Gas padal won't work

You need to bleed the air from the system. First if you replaced the master cylinder you need to bleep both ports that the line hook too. Then hook the lines up and bleed all four corners of the vehicles brakes starting with the right rear since it is the furthest point away from the master cylinder. As you bleed the system remember to refill the master so you don't' ingest more air into the system again.

1994 explorer - engine light stays on

if the egr was just replaced ad that was the problem the computer wont recognize the new part until you reset the computer. to reset the computer take the positive cable from the car off the battery and give it 3-5min to discharge then touch the positive cable from the car to the negative cable (still attached to the battery) for about 5 seconds and then hook back up the positive post and that will reset the computer. this will take the light off and it will stay off if the problem was fixed the the egr. this is a good place to start.

Hi. fuel consumption and sensor

THE FUEL MILAGE ON THAT PARTICULAR VEHICLE SHOULD BE SOMEWHERE AROUND 17MPG IF IT IS EQUIPED WITH THE 4.0L V6. ONE THING YOU MIGHT WANT TO TRY IS TO RESET THE K.A.M. ON THE VEHICLE. THIS WILL RESET ALL OF THE FUEL CURVES AND OXYGEN SENSOR PARAMETERS AND ALLOW THE SYSTEM TO RE-LEARN HOW MUCH FUEL IS NEEDED TO RUN PROPERLY. TO DO THIS YOU CAN SIMPLY DISCONNECT THE NEGITIVE AND POSITIVE BATTERY CABLES AND LET THE VEHICLE SET FOR ABOUT 10-15 MIN. AFTER THAT TIME TOUCH THE TWO CABLES TOGETHER FOR ABOUT 15 SEC. AND THEN REINSTALL BATTERY CABLES ON BATTERY. THIS MAY HELP IN YOUR CASE BACAUSE WITH A NEW OXGEN SENSOR, THE COMPUTER IS NOT USED TO SEEING THE CORRECT READING SO WHEN IT DOES GET THE READING THAT IT NEEDS, IT DOES NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH THEM.
