Engine turning over but wouldnot idle

Well, 2 things come to mind. (1) There could be a dirty gas filter not letting the engine receive enough gas to idle and certainly not enough to rev to any rpm. (2) Depending on the mileage, the catalytic converter could be partially or completely stopped up, not letting the engine expel exhaust gas and subsequently causing unburned fuel to bog the engine down.Lastly, again depending on mileage, the oxygen sensors could be needing to be replaced because of exhaust fouling. Hope this helps.

Sputters and dies on cold start, significant drop in gas mileage.

You need to rebuild the carburetor or clean the choke linkage and make sure the choke valve closes cold.

My 1993 toyota tercel-4-sp-1500 motor//idles rapidly up and down

It sounds like you engine coolant temperature sensor wiring is defective. This sensor is basically a variable resistor that lets the computer know when the engine is warmed up. Your idle RPM should gradually drop as the engine approaches normal operating temperature, but if the sensor connection is loose/corroded/ or has a broken wire then the computer will interpret this as a cold engine and raise the idle point. This sensor is not the one that controls the gage on your dash, so looking at the gage is not a viable test method in this case.

2006 chevy 2500 express cargo van .What is a good oil pressure for this van. it has 150,000 miles runs great

60psi cold / 30-45psi warm is ideal. I've seen (with that mileage) 45 cold/ 20 warm and that's acceptable - anything less start thinking about a new oil pump.

Missing hoses on engine to carburetor and engine idle speed is very high and gas mileage is very low.

You have lost a vacuum hose. Replace it and the idle speed will go down and the gas mileage will improve.

1994 camry 4cyl. was running great. drove it to work and shut it off, then went to start it back up and it shut right off, wont idle. I can keep it running by keeping my foot on gas and its not running...

have your idle control switch check, easy and inexpensive to replace. The idle control switch is what keep the engine stay idle. also have your throttle body clean by a professional having that many miles, it will give you better gas mileage.

Engine won't idle

problem sounds like IAC (idle air control) or EGR (exhaust gas recirculation) Is there a check engine (MIL) light on with rhe issue. I just replaced an EGR valve on a camry this weekend with the same issue.

High gas usage

I was just listening to Car Talk on NPR (Click & Clack) talking about this exact thing in response to a callers complaint about poor mileage. Their advise was to: a. check the compression and b. check the thermostat.
With your 2001 being 7 years old your mileage is probably under 100,000 so your compression is probably OK. If you do check it the good compression should be about 150 PSI; if it's down around 100 PSI that could account for the poor mileage.
As for the thermostat if your engine temperature doesn't get un into the normal range fairly soon, the computer thinks the engine is cold and adjusts the choke accordingly which uses more gas

Hope this helps Good Luck Loringh
