One of (3) places. if you do not see a filter or filter housing underneath the car, it may be on top of the engine. if you still do not see on top of the engine, remove the plastic engine cover and find the oil filter housing. If all else fails, get a string flashlight and repeat all the steps...I sometimes find that I overlooked the filter because Toyota filters are "black" in color.

Where is the oil filter located in a toyota 2004 avalon six cylinder

As you are standing in front of the car with hood open, the oil filter is located directly under the left side of the exhaust manifold and to the right of the alternator. The filter angles upward, so have a drip pan directly under the filter location when you remove and replace with new. Another tip: The filter removal device that works the best is the type that attach to the end of the filter and you turn with a ratchet wrench. You will need a short extension for the ratchet wrench. Longer one will not clear the radiator fan when trying to remove. Wrap around filter wrenches do not allow enough room to clamp on and turn the filter loose. In some cases, you can hand remove them. This is much easier with the Fram design filter that has the rubber in the bottom of the filter housing; easier to grip and turn.

I can't find the oil filter on my Boss's Avalon so it is setting in our main hanger at the small airport that I work at. I have drained the old oil out but I am baffled by where the oil filter is located.

It's in a cast aluminum container on the bottom of the engine toward the front passenger side, you will see a square hole. The filter is inside, it is a cartridge type filter. Filters are at your toyota dealer and come with 2 "O" rings, an adapter to drain oil from the housing, plus directions.
