Question about 1999 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

Car will turn over but not start.

When I attempt to turn the car on it turns over but will not start or stay on. I used starter fluid to see if it could get the car to start and stay on. The car started but the engine would die after a few seconds. Could this be the fuel filter or fuel pump? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Ok.....How was the car running upto this point? Did you notice any juddering or misfireing in the weeks or days upto the point of not starting?

If so unplug the mass air flow sensor which is located just up from the air filter and the try starting the carhttp://myprobooks.com/passat/MAFS/IMGP16...

If not it maybe the throttle body.....keep us updated

Truck wont start

Starter fluid won't work if the starter won't turn the engine over.

Get the battery load tested...it may not have enough juice to start the truck but have enough to light up the lights

check your fuses and battery connections at the starter. Is the anti theft light flashing? If it is that's your problem. Wait 10 minutes insert the key...wait for the theft light to go out before trying to start.

if that doesn't work you will need to get the starter checked...which means you will have to take it off.

All comes on when key is turned on, starter will not engage when key turned to position. new starter, new battery, starter attempts to start car when jumped at starter relay 87 w/key on. car had started,...

Does the car have a factory security system? it may have a starter kill on it.
also check for voltage at the starter solenoid while someone holds the key to start position, you could have a faulty ignition switch.
the engine light stays on when the key is on until engine starts.

Car wont start. turns over but wont stay running . attempted to install a remote starter on my 03 malibu. the first module broke so i had to order a replacement, during which time i simply left the wires...

your cars antitheft system is trying to prevent the car from being stolen so it is shutting it offf after it starts. go back over step by step you installation instructions make sure the ring around the ignition that comes with the remote starter is taped into the exact loacation it needs to be, or the cars own anti theft system will not notice it and will try to shut car off. its an anti theft feature. if this doesn't wotk you will not be able to use this remote starter. i ran into the same problem finally got it to work poperly.

89 f-150 turns over just wont start

If the only evidence of trying to start was when u used starter fluid, it's probably a fuel issue. After attempting to start several times, pull a plug and check for gas/wet plug. If there is no evidence of gas reaching the plug, it's probably the fuel pump. Change the fuel filter too.

Car will not turn over

The most common problem would be a bad starter. The clicking sound is not always heard in a bad starter. The mentioning of no attempt to turn over shows that the process stopped at start (bad starter) Check the positive cable on the starter for corrosion. Otherwise, you will have to replace the starter. The problem is intermittent, stay aware It might start 2 or 3 times then out of nowhere. it will start give you problems. Avoid the headache, replace the starter.
