I bled injectors, no air in lines. Clear Lines to injector pump do not show any bubbles. Fuel filter had no water and clean diesel fuel.

Car was running until harmonic balancer took a ****. Replaced it and belts prior to all this. Timing belt is fairly new and tight. Any sugestions. Can engine speed sensor be a participant or injector pump timing?

It runs great as I slowly shoot starting fluid into the intake.

    Thanks, joe

I would replace the injector itself. You can get a free full online repair manual with everything you could need if you register for free at autozone.com

First of all try this ------ You do not pull them out.

Just simply locate the injectors on the engine and notice the large i believe 17mm hex head by the base of the injector. Loosen about 1/2 turn, crank engine over, repeat on all injectors.

**Place a rag over base of injectors after loosening as fuel will spray wear eye protection**

Once all injectors are bled out, try starting engine (might take several long cranks).
-----------------
There may be help nearby. If we knew what "nearby" was, someone may be able to come over and lay on the hands.

What did the fuel look like in the filter? Drain some from the bottom to see what it looks like there?

You can drain the tank by lifting the Right rear seat bottom, moving the flap, removing the three, big Phillips screws and unscrewing that big, plastic ring. Lift out the fuel sending unit and take a look in there.

There is a pump inside the injection pump that draws the fuel to the pump, therefore everything before the pump is under a suction and is suspect of an air leak.

The air bubbles should be moving through the clear line. Crack open the injector lines at the injectors, starting at #3 while someone cranks the engine. Spitting can happen even if the injector is pumping fuel. Do a good job of bleeding the injector and lines and see if that gets you running.

The engine speed sensor could be faulting out because of the timing being off. It seems like the engine will start but will not stay running due to timing.check out the engine speed sensor located in the transmisson.

    keep updated.thanks.

Hi , I have just replaced the fuel fiter on my VW Tansporter T4 TDI 2.5 diesel 2001. How do I bleed it? I can not see the fuel through the hoses as they are black..

Close the filter drain cock, remove the filter, fill the filter with fuel and put it back on. Now crank the engine to start at a faster speed and let it blubber till it smooths out and your good. If you\'ve been cranking on it already, hope not, then you have allowed air into your fuel system and you must bleed all the air out at the injector lines until there is fuel coming out of each line you\'ve got cracked open at each injector. It will take some time and a lot of cranking. But if you do it like I said to start with, it will start easily. I\'m an old timer and love diesel engines. Old school way is the only way.

I need a wiring schmatic for a 88 vw fox

The ignition switch and relay supply the power. Switch to relay, relay to pump. make a set of jumper wires and run them from battery to pump and see if pump runs . If it does its ok. Next pull fuel injection relay (under dash in fuse box)check it for burnt terminals , resistance and continuity. Its a good idea to get a shop manual for this car. This car is a pleasure to fix . After you pull relay for pump get a voltmeter and test the circuit for B+ (don't forget to put key in ignition and turn to the on position.
If you get B+ here switch is ok most likely relay is the culprit.
Remember there are two fuel pumps for this vehicle
One in the tank (accessable via trunk lift carpet and its in the right corner) the other under the car by the tank. have fun and good luck

Ran out of diesel on a 96 vw transporter van, what do I do, I've put deisel in the tank now what?

Need to change the fuel filter first, you may pulled some debris from the fuel tank. After replacing the filter you must prime the system to get it to start. Have a strong battery as you may have to crank a while to get the air out of the system. You can get the air out bt loosening a couple of the injector lines at the injector, crank engine untill fuel comes from the lines, continue to crank engine till it starts to run, will run rought untill you tighten the lines and let it run for a few seconds,. sounds more complicayed than it really is. Let me know if this helped

It is sometimes hard to start my jetta tdi. When this happens and I finally get it started, qite a bit of thick smoke comes out of the exhaust. Any thoughts?

It is hard starting my VW 2003 Jetta. It usually take 5 to 10 cranking before it turns over. Then it run normally. It only happens when the car has not been driven for about 6 hours.

How do you bleed a peugeot 206 1.9 diesel fuel system

The diesels I've worked on are bleed at the injectors. You need to loosen each injector in turn and pump up fuel pressure until only fuel comes out, no air, than tighten the fitting up before it back feeds. Repeat this process for each injector.
