It may be your catalytic converter gone bad. i would check that and your fuel lines. your fuel line may have gotten hot and collapsed. but i would try the cat to make sure that it is not bad.

Car shuts off after 3 to 7 miles and after waiting until engine cools will start

You mean it's hot? Don't run it if it is..................that's a sure head gasket blown or worse. If it runs a few minutes and dies,it could be the fuel filter plugging badly.
Sometimes an ignition with the computer chip or whatever in the key will stop sporadically. You need to give more details.Sounds,slowing,backfiring,jerking,etc.? don-ohio

My husband was ill for quite a while. I disconnected the battery to my 1991 toyota v6 fuel injected, automatic, over a year ago. Today I hooked up the battery, charged it, and nothing. Engine will not turn...

Put a full charge on the battery, then put a load test on the battery. It may have a dead cell or two, which would cause the car not to start. Another thing to check would be the cleanliness of the batter posts and the cable ends. If they are corroded badly, could cause a non-start problem.

Car jerking jerking like the engine want to die...

What about fuel filter or fuel pump?
Sounds like it is not getting the fuel through or is getting to much fuel
Check choke not sticking and air filter clean etc.

Was jerking when running for last yr. now will not run at all.....

Did you address the jerking issue or just keep driving with the jerking until it died?

The jerking and the fact that your car will not run at all now appears to be tied into the ignition system. (spark plugs, distributor cap, ignition coils, ignition wires, timing belt, etc)

Engine won't turn over completely

You need to replace the Starter and Solinoid. The Solinoid comes on the New Starter. The Solinoid shorted out when the Battery Died and Damaged the Starter.

Jerking while driving

If you park your vehicle for a long time, you run the risk of having contaminated fuel in the tank. This happened to a car my wife purchased, and it was the last thing I found. It proved to be the problem. What you need to do is remove the fuel from the tank and then have the tank flushed. Fill it with fresh fuel and replace the fuel filter.
