Have you checked or changed your fuel filter lately. The particles in the filter dam up while the engine is running. When it stalls, all the particles fall back away from the outlet so the engine will start again allowing the particles to dam up...etc etc.

Testimonial: "i can only hope i changed it with the fuel pump prob 3 yrs or so ago but i don't drive it much but. i've also been told cam sensor.? unsure of that."

2003 nissan maxima stalls while driving slowly

have him check the fuel pump. you might be losing pressure over time causing the vehicle to die and after you let it sit the pressure is building up

Starts, idle is good, but lose's power and then die's

The reason seems to be vacuum leak. Try replacing the vacuum hose. Vacuum in engine is used to pump the fuel in engine cylinder and to keep the ride in proper working condition. Vacuum leak can be one of the symptoms responsible for vacuum leak.

I have no idea.

the mechanic told you repairing an oil leak (valve cover gaskets?) would fix a stalling problem? did these electrical problems start after you got the van back? possible ground wire left off or loose, freestars have alot of issues with the engine computers getting wet from rainwater, and other electrical problems. someone needs to scan all the computers for fault codes that may lead to a direction in diagnosing your problem. does the engine still stall? If you took your car in to get engine dying problem resolved and they sold you valve cover gaskets as the solution to your problem you may want to try a different shop. Be careful, I myself am a mechanic for 20 years and I have seen some mechanics who love money, but they dont invest the time needed in training to honestly do their job correctly. cars are changing, technicians have to be very skilled in electrical systems to repair cars today. find a reputable repair shop would be my advice for you. sorry for your troubles

Problems with losing power when i'm driving along

Hi
It's most likely the EGR Valve, "Exhaust Gas Recycler Valve" when they start to go you lose loads of power especailly at 30-50 and on hill's

Is the engine light or any lights on the dash?
EGR Valves are about £130 you can fit them your self also.

Somedays it wil not do it at all other days you can barely drive the car.

Worth mentioning you may be able to clean it, so have a go before buying a new one. Use carb cleaner and spray it all over it, dont be shy, you cant damage it. dry it off and re-fit it that cures it then you should be ok, but be aware it may fail over the coming months.

Hope this helps, if not get back to me for more info.
It could be a few things but your description is so presise I would say it's The EGR.

Regards
Dan

I have a 2003 Saturn Ion 3. It loses power at times. I could not get the door opener to work one morning, so after opening it with the key the car would not start. No sounds nothing. Then all of a sudden I...

How did you check the battery? This needs to be done with a load test to be sure. Most car parts places will do this free. Battery leads OK? Not corroded? Also have the altenator checked for proper voltage out.

How do you check if altenator is charging battery,

Most vehicles if you get the car running and unhook the positive battery cable it will stay running that is because it is running off the alternator. if it dies like your talking about I would most definitely say your alternator needs to be replaced. Most likely when you jumped your father in laws pick up there was a bad ground somewhere and your alternator got a surge of electricity and it fried it. Hope this helps.
