Engine light came on right after I'd pumped gas. I have checked my gas cap etc. all fluids are ok. I thought it would have reset itself, but it hasn't. It's never came on before.

Fuel clog cause by ethanol. change fuel filter, and add can of SEAFOAM ASAP. Buy this at Advance Auto Parts, and have them run engine code. It will say:lean burn or misfire. Ask them to cut off light, Add 1/2 tank of Premium to car. And add Seafoam every 5000 miles to tank. It will help. Ethanol gas syndrome(EGS)

Try disconnecting the + positive cable to the battery for a few minutes and allow the system to reset itself ...then reattach it this should work and make sure you hear 3 clicks when closing the gas cap

My service engine lite came on right after i filled up with gas

Check the gas cap and make sure it is tight, if cross threaded or the seal is bad the light will kick on. Hope this helps.

Where is the reset button, ran out of gas and doesn't want to start again

There are two spots I always find them. The fist and most frequent is behind the kick panel on the passenger side. It should just pull off. The second spot is in the trunk behind the concealment panel on the left or right.

My jeep is throwing a code for a vapor leak. ive checked all hoses nothing to seems to be leaking but my jeep has a very strong odor of gas

Your problem is most likely coming from your gas cap. Your vehicle's gas cap may seem tight, but the rubber washer around the inner edge of the gas cap may be defective. Go purchase another gas cap for your car at one of the nearest auto part's location's nearest you. Change the gas cap and reset your vehicle's computer by taking the positive terminal off for a minute and replace the battery cable back on the vehicle. This method reset's your vehicle's computer. If the gas cap is the main problem, your check engine light won't come back on and your problem is solved. Gas is highly combustible and dangerous. always use precaution's when doing any work on your vehicle that require's working with any part's associated with any part's of the gas emission's system including the gas tank, gas cap, purge solenoid, charcoal canister, fuel filter, fuel pump, etc., etc. the gas smell can also be coming from a broken or faulty rubber gas line or the metal clamp's connected to the rubber hose's located between the gas tank fill valve and the gas tank itself. there are several black rubber gas hose's associated with the gas tank. have a qualified technician check the gas emission's system for any and all leak's gas also evaporate's fast, do to the combustibility again always use caution when attempting any and all repair's requiring checking the gas or emission's evaporation system. Sincerely Crystopper.

Some body stolen the fuel gas cap frome my car,i drive 2 day w/out cap.when i see that im buy new gas cap,but tha chek engine come in on,what can i do to solve this problem?thanks

One of the problems that trigger a check engine light is either a faulty gas cap, gas cap not on all the way or no gas cap. Once you replace the gas cap you should be able to reset your check engine light or it may automatically adjust itself.

Check engine light is on and won't go off.

It should reset itself within 3-4 days. If not, ask any auto parts store to reset it and they typically do it for free.

Im having a similar problem with the engine light being on-

Most vehicles will sense that the tank is not sealed, will turn on a light. Depending on the make of car, may have to drive several hours, several starts, etc. before it resets itself after you correct the gas cap problem.

1998 Jeep Cherokee won't start?

I need to confirm some information. The engine is rotating, just not starting, right? When you put the key into the "on" position, do you hear the fuel pump prime itself? You'll hear a hum sound for a couple of seconds. If not, spray some starting fluid into the throttle body and see if the engine starts. If it does start with the starting fluid, then shuts off again, the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay is bad. I'd change the relay first, if that doesn't help, the fuel pump is bad.

96 merc.xr7 check engine light always on. i checked oil, trans.fluid, coolant gas cap, powwer st.&brake fluid all are ok. what eles should i check?

Take it to OReily or Advanced Auto Parts. They check the light for free by analyser. Mine was just a dirty gas cap that was setting off light for over 6 months. Give it a try-it's free.
