Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

The vehicle is a 2004 Volkswagen Passat wagon GLX with v6 engine and about 55,000 miles. The check engine light comes on and with a code reader it shows a code "PO 118 Mod 10. Engine coolant temp high input". My code reader tool has a reset function and I have erased the check engine light. It does fine for about a week or two and the same reading reapears. The engine operating temperature on the dash always reads in the normal operating range. What is the problem and is it serious?

You have a faulty sensor somewhere here.If you cleared the error and it came back then you need to check the resistance of the sensor with a meter.
Temp sensor is on the tranny side of the head or in the top radiator hose where it has a metal interface to the center front of the head...hope this helps...

Major auto parts stores have code readers and will read out your codes for free. The engine light indicates that at least one code is waiting to be read.

Just bought my '03 vw passat wagon today, with

It may not reset for 50 drive cycles. It would be quicker to get it scanned by the dealer who just sold it to you and ask them for the code. If it does come back as a small evap leak then they can clear the code and you can be on your way. If the vehicle was left running during you refilling the fuel, it would trigger this code. Just don't tell them that when you take it in. Play dumb and tell them "it just came on"! let me know if you need anything else.

I have a 2004 V6 Volkswagen Passat with 110,000 miles on it and it has suddenly began to idle a little rough. Any thoughts?

Could be a lot of things. A sensor, bad gas, clogged fuel filter, spark plugs, plug wires, camshaft position sensor, etc.. Check engine light on?? If so, have the the code scanned to find out the fault code. Go to your mechanic, or local auto parts superstore...most do it for free banking on you will buy the part from them.

My volkswagon passat wagon 2000, my check engine light comes on, saying emmisions check, it also smells of oil when I have the heat blowing???

Assuming you have the V6 engine the oil is undoubtedly from leaking Cam Adjuster Gaskets on the back left & Right front of the heads (L&R). They are a pattern failure on these motors and must be changed when the timing belt is serviced. A Big Job! You will have to read the computer codes to know what the CEL is on for.

Check engine light comes on even though i replaced the faulty camshaft senors

take it back to shop because.some of the 2.8 v6 passat had 2 cam sensors.one for right bank and one for left bank.if shop already replace them.they need to remove code from computer.
