Getting to timing chain without tearing down engine 2000 dodge intrepid

I assume you're talking about the 2.7L V6. As you're probably aware (having had it apart before), the timing is properly set by aligning the colored links on the primary timing chain with the marks on the crank sprocket and cam sprockets. The only way I know of to see all these at the same time is to remove the timing cover, and you have to tear the engine apart to remove the timing cover.

What are the steps to replace the water pump on 1996 lexus es300

Hi, you will need some special tool like : External torx (star)socket, pully and regular tool (# 10,12,14 etc..metric) to change the water pump. First, you need to clear the room for the job because such as Two belts -(alternator,air cond., pump ect and pully) need to disconnected and take out the plastic cover, tire e.t.c. There are about ten bolts. The water pump is inside the plastic cover which turns by the timing belt. I strongly recomment to change the timing belt at the same time ($30.00-timing belt- It last about 80000-90,000 miles). Remember to mark the timing gear carefully when you take the timing belt out. This will help you put the timing belt back in the right degree for the engine perform. Water pump can only replace after the timing belt is disconnected.
Take care

1999 Gran Am water pump need to replace

I am hoping for you sake it is a v6 instead of a 4 cylinder, on the v6 you take off the belt then the water pump pulley on top closest to the front with 4 10mm bolts, then when the pulley is off you take off the 8mm bolts take off the pump clean off the old gasket material put the new gasket on the new pump and reverse the procedure. on the 4cylinder however it involves removing the timing chain cover the chain and a bit more

I need to remove the water pump on a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am. What is neccesary to remove the front timing chain cover? I have the instructions to remove the water pump, but it involves removing the front...

Just to clarify i asked what size motor was in his car. The reason for that statement that removing the timing cover ,chain and exhaust wasent required to change the water pump is that on 3.4 V6 engines none of that is required. To change the water pump in my car ( 99 grand am gt 3.4L) all you need to do is remove serpentine belt, remove the 4 bolts holding on the water pump pulley, then remove the 5 water pump retaining bolts and it out. Then you just need t remove any traces of the old gasket clean the surface put a new gasket on following it with the new water pump torque the 5 retaining bolts , water pump pulley torque its 4 bolts put the serpentine belt back on fill and bleed the coolant system and your done. All the work done easily from the top of the motor without any special tools. It took me a hour and a half. So there is a huge difference in changing water pumps on a 4 cylinder engine and a 6 cylinder engine this is why I asked what engine he had in his car.

Water pump replacement 96 isuzu rodeo

Remove belt, fan, fan shroud and fan bracket. Remove timing covers, timing belt and water pump. Replace timing belt and the hydraulic tensioner with new ones. I suggest you get a mechanic to do this as you can easly get it out of time. Not an easy job.

Water pump leaking

If you have a 2.4 liter engine, you would be well-advised to take this to a mechanic rather than try replacing it yourself. The water pump in the 2.4 liter engine is driven off of the timing chain, and is on the back side of the engine. You have to remove the serpentine belt, right-side motor mount, harmonic balancer, timing cover, timing chain tensioner, timing chain, exhaust manifold, upper exhaust pipe, etc. When you put it all back together, you have to make sure to properly re-time the cams to the crank shaft. Without a vehicle hoist and a number of special tools, the job would probably take a good amateur mechanic about one full weekend to complete. A well-practiced professional with the right tools can do it in about 6 hours.

If you have the 3.1L V6, the water pump is pretty easy to get to. Just remove the serpentine belt and then unbolt the water pump and remove it from the engine. I would think an amateur could do it in 2-3 hours, and a professional could do it in less than one.

Water pump mx6

Buy a service manual, I just finished working on mine, it's a big job. You need to remove pass front wheel, plastic cover behind it, 2 belts of the pass side of the motor, motor mount, crankshaft pulley, timing belt covers, timing belt/tensioner, at this point you might be able to get to the water pump. Now get ready for the fun part of putting it all back on without making a mistake and destroying your engine. You can not get this done without a service manual. I know what I'm doing, and I probably could not do this without a book.

First you need to take off all the belts, then remove the a/c line to axcess to the 8 mms bolts holding the upper and lower timing belt covers. To facilitate the job you will need to remove lower crankshaft pulley.
This is a delicate job, since you have to access to the cam belt, I suggest buying the haynes manual for your car and following the step by step illustrated procedure, before starting the job.
