I have a 2001 cavalier manual transmission and it with not shift into 1 or 2 gear unless I really force it in after I get in gear it works fine until I start using 3,4or5 gear then I have to slam it in...

You may need a new clutch. By forcing it you are creating damage to the transmission. Upon having the first trouble you should have repaired the car. It is likely that you now need a clutch and transmission repair where at first you may have just needed the clutch. Stop driving it and have it towed before you break something else.

Cracking sound upon switchin the gear between D, R

No not necessary to change the oil also its a dealer only job to change the oil as a special tool is required ,i would need to hear the noise and have a drive to have any idea as to the cause but a worn drive shaft or a rubber suspension is my first suspect

Loud thumping sound!

Probably the same issue I am having with the A/C actuator. Move your selector from dash vents to floor vents, then to defrost and see if the sound stops. Mine is stuck on either floor or defrost right now, won't direct air out through the dash vents. The gears in the actuator motors strip and the thumping will get worse until the gear is finally worn down and won't work at all.

What is the second drive gear for

The first one is over drive and the second is drive. It is best to just use overdrive when on the parkway and drive on slower back roads when there is hills and stop and go traffic. Overdrive is a higher gear.

Whining coming from rearend in a 1992 corvette with a 375 gear. how to fix or stop noise.?

If your gear set is worn, replace the differential with one from a scrapyard.
It is very expensive and an exacting science to set new gears up. if noise is from either carrier side bearing it is possible to replace them but generally if there is debris inside the unit the pinion bearings will be affected as well, requiring re-setting of gears. Depending upon what you ask from your vehicle, this is a good opportunity to change ratios. If you don't need all the bottom end performance, you could opt for a 3.23 ratio. If you are looking for more "off the line" power then go to 4.11's. Don't forget though that anything but the exact match to yours will require a speedometer drive gear change .You cannot stop the noise without making a repair.

Car slipped out of DRIVE position only revving the RPM's.

Tranny low on fluid. When you stop or turn it all goes to one side causing the problems.

1993 bighorn transmission - Automatic

if it is jumping gears, the gear box will not do that, it is more than likely your sedondary inside the transmission.
