Question about 1994 Dodge Caravan

1 Answer

The passanger side sliding door on my 94 Crysler Town and Country had been working fine, this morning however when my daughter tried to close it the door bounced back open, and now the door will not close, no matter how softly or how hard you try to close it. I can't lock it and the interior lights will not go off now, since there is a door open. What happened to my door and how do I fix it?

the top of the door probably has a track and rollers that it rolls back & forth on. A. your track, if it's not welded on, may have loose fasteners, so your door is sagging a bit and not aligning with the lock mechanism. B. the bearings in one of your rollers may have failed, thus putting the door out of line. C. the latch bar on your door, or the latch on the frame may be loose, preventing the door from locking in place, and the light switch from shutting off. check for anything loose or out of line. if you hear a grinding sound at the top probably bearings in roller. try some lithium grease. if it's latches, re-align them (you can usually tell where they were when they were tight). probably need a medium phillips + head screwdriver to tighten latch components. also, lubricate! if worse comes to worse, lift up on the door when closing it! cheap solution, 'til you can afford a newer vehicle. hope this helps! good luck!

I think something maybe blocking it from closing check really well around the door and near the sensors. If that doesnt work i think a sensor went bad and now wants to stay open. Its like a position sensor tells the door how far to go and when to stop.

LR DOOR WILL ONLY OPEN TO A POINT AND STOP

I had a similar problem with my 2007 Town and Country. It would start to open and stop but then nothing. There is a plastic linkage track that houses some wires and one of the black wires was broken about 5 links from the door. After I repaired it everything worked fine.

Auto sliding door wont completely open or close from the home possition. The door opens half way and the door closes half way.

The wire harness/track assembly below the door needs replaced. It is a fairly simple operation that can be done in your driveway or garage. If you have any questions on how to replace feel free to ask.

Power slider's open or close part of the way and then open or close on there own

Are you parked on a level surface when this happens? I have a 2008 town and country and I have noticed that the doors are hyper sensitive… If I park on an incline my doors also behave as you have described. My solution is to try to park on level surfaces.

Power sliding door will not activate when outside handle is pulled on chrysler town and country 2002

oh we have a 02 C T & C and our keyless entry for the sliding doors. when the side doors are not closed all the way or opened all the way the keyless entry won't kick in. try doing it closed or fully open, if this does not work try checking the battery in the remote. over all lets put it this way the 02 C T & C is like the best mini van around however it comes with alot of problems from ac. to tail lights

The power lock (driver's side sliding door) on our 2003 Chrysler Town & Country Van will not work. We have to manually lock and unlock the door. How can this be fixed?

Take a look at end of door where latch is & post where the 2 meet when closed. Look for round metal button/contacts, about 1/2" in diameter. If you look close, they should line up to make contact with each other when door is closed. Take some fine steel wool (preferred) or fine sandpaper and scuff them up until you see metal is clean on both surfaces. Now try it, and let me know what happens.

Passanger side elctric door

sounds like your solenoid is wearing out or wiring connections need cleaning refer to repair manual from either haynes or chiltons and under electrical section follow instructions on testing also I noticed when I had similar problems with customers it actually helped to change the batteries in the remote unit itself but not always, alot of times I had to either clean or replace solenoids

2006 town and country passanger sliding door problem

I've leased two Town and Country vans over the past 4 years, and actually purchased the latest one after the lease. In both vans the sliding doors, normally the drivers side, reacted teh same way. If the door was closed it would open, stop a one point, and then return to the open position. At times I could get it close. But over time the doors stoped working all together.

It is not due to the switch or the motor. Most cases like this (in in both of mine) it is due to the repetitive use of that door, and the realitive inflexibility of the wire harness. Over time, and with more uses (in my case the driver side sliding door was used alot) the wire in the harness fails. Picture it as a willow branch. One snapped off of a tree it first is green and flexible, and bends pretty well into any form. But over time, with age and repetitive bending, it will break.

The only recourse is a new harness, as the wire/wires are broken somewhere in the harness (the belt chain in the lower track of the door). I was temped to take it apart and try to repair it myself, but as the parts were under warranty (I have the extended 85,000 mile), I opted to have the professionals handle it. The repair without the warranty is under $200 typically (parts and labor). Good luck.
