Question about 1998 Volvo V70

1 Answer

Hi, when I turn sharply left, like in a parking area or so, the ABS-brakes starts to knock, probably at one of the front wheel brakes. I have no indication from any ABS warning light on the dashboard. The problem only occurs at very sharp left turning. My car is a Volvo V70 2.5T from 1998. regards Peter G

Hi,
It could possibly be a wheel speed sensor or another input/abs controller fault...to be sure abs codes need to be pulled .
I don’t know why turning the wheel has anything to do with the noise it could just be coincidental. There are small "wear indicators" that are attached to the brake pad itself and is designed to give off a high pitched squeal when the brake pads wear down to the indicator level.
When you step on the brake, you basically force the wear indicator into the brake rotor so it can not vibrate and make the squeal noise. So, get a brake inspection before you do damage to the brake rotor....that is the part the brake pads grab onto to stop the vehicle.
Thanks
Smith.

What will make my truck shut off while driving. The truck runs well, will shut off without indication. I can start it back in neutral or park, sometimes it will turn over once or twice then start.

its a brake failure system problem

those codes say
hey this truck doesn't have a working abs brake system
STOP this truck

abs module could be a leaky or failed pressure valve
wheel sensors ..dirty or insulation cracked

no rear speed signal is generated as abs system fails

P0440-Evap Emissions. code of is a different issue

2005 truck. What are the probable causes of DTCs C0035,C0040,and C0201?

C0035 is ABS Sensor in left front wheel
C0040 is ABS Sensor in right front wheel
C0201 is ABS Enable Relay Contact Circuit
You most likely have a poor ground connection or a faulty EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) for these conditions. I recommend having someone run a diagnostic test at a shop. I doubt the ABS issue is stopping the truck from cranking.

Probably a really simple question, but on a Mercury Mystique 1997 (manufactured 1996) brake master cylinder (with ABS), which port, front or rear, leads to the front wheel section of the ABS module?

Off the master cylinder. The front tube controls the rear brakes. And the back one controls the front brakes. Just a note. I don't know which year they started doing this, but, the front right brake goes/ties in to the left rear brakes. left front to right rear. This set up runs off the ABS module to the brakes.

Service brake assist, service stabilitrak

check the wires to the sender units on the front wheels are not broken or loose . The ABS and the stable track use the same sender units . Check that the wheel bearings are serviceable and adjusted properly as this will allow the rotor to touch the sender unit if they are loose.

Knocking noise around the front passenger wheel area!?

Do you feel it in the steering wheel? if so it could be the intermediate steering shaft. If not it could be a sway bar link or bushing.

I have 2004 dodge diesel 2500 and when i turn my wheel left my abs light comes on and brake light comes on my brake pedal goes to the floor and i have no brakes and when i turn the wheel back the abs and...

Its the wheel speed sensor, or the wires are damaged. Turn the wheels to the left and then go look at the harness. is it streched out? (as in not enough slack) Is it touching or rubbing something. Has it come loose from its clips? Look at the face of the sensor. A few scratches are okay but, if it looks hammered, its probably damaged and should be replaced. If the hub bearing was bad enough to allow contact damage to the WSS you would have much bigger problems.

I hear a single knock in drivers side wheel area when braking firmly. I don't hear when braking softly.

I would have your ABS system checked out. If it is just one KNOCK, it could be your ABS starting to engage. If it were pad / rotor problems, it would be a continuous knock until you stopped.
