Clutch pedal has came up and their is no resistance when pressing foot down on the pedal

Sounds like the clutch cable needs to be tightened up. They are adjustable. Usually where the clutch cable meets the side of the transmission.You'd want to tighten the nut to shorten the cable.

Or it could be a hydraulic clutch. Check the hydraulic fluid or the brake fluid. Some cars use the brake fluid for the clutch. Could of sprung a leak in the clutch line.

Engine revs but no acceleration

Have 90 toyota 4runner just replaced slave cylinder plenty of fluid but the clutch pedal just flops around no resistence either way. any answers?


Hello, try opening the bleeder valve on the slave cylinder, leave it open, pull the pedal up and then pump the pedal down and pull it up repeatedly until you feel some pressure, close the valve and try bleeding the rest of the air out in the normal manner.

I have a 1990 nissan pickup with a problem with the clutch pedal. there is no clutch press at the clutch pedal when i press on the pedal it just falls to the floorboard and does not return. i can lift it...


First, try bleeding it. Put a 2 foot peice of vacuum hose on the slave cylinder bleeder screw. Loosen the bleeder screw. Put the other end of the hose into a clear bottle or brake/clutch fluid. ( have the bottle about half full). Now, have someone pump the clutch by hand while you watch for bubbles in the bottle. When it stops bubbling, you have all the air out, and you can tighten the bleeder, and remove the hose, and refill the reservoir.
If it won't bubble, and no fluid comes out, your master cylinder needs replacing.
( P.S. - The slave cylinder is down under the truck. It's what pushes the clutch rod.)

The clutch pedal sticks down when trying to engage


YOU DO NEED A NEW DISC AND MOST LIKELY A MASTER AND SLAVE HYDRAULIC CLUTCH CYLINDERS, THE STICKING MAY BE DUE TO OVER TRAVEL DUE TO THE WORN OUT DISK.

Fill the clutch reservoir with new brake fluid and kneel down beside the car, reach in with your hand and pump the clutch pedal up and down until it starts to return on it's own. Check the reservoir level, hop in the car and pump the pedal about twenty times with you foot, the clutch will self bleed and you'll be able to shift. If there is a leak somewhere, this problem will reoccur until the cause of the leak is fixed.

HOW TO KNOW WHEN SHALL I CHANGE CLUTCH DESK?


To reduce clutch disc/plate problems, avoid riding the clutch whilst driving, ie having ur foot on the clutch pedal when the engine is in operation, especially wqhen the vehicle is in motion. You see the clutch disc is sandwiched between the flywheel of the engine & the pressure plate. When the driver presses the clutch pedal, the sandwiching of the clutch plate is released, so therefore no drive is being transmitted from the engine to the road wheels. This gives an effect as if the vehicle is in neutral (engine can be revved, with no movement or propulsion of the vehicle). When the driver releases the clutch pedal, the clutch disc is now sandwiched tightly causing the drive to be transmitted to the road wheels which will now cause the vehicle to be propelled.

Clutch discs are only replaced when there are problemes with clutching in and changing gears. After constant pressing of the clutch, the asbestos material on the clutch disc after a period grinds down (clutch disc becomes thinner), which in turn will reduce friction characteristics when all the elements are sandwiched. This causes a slipping effect, preventing the drive from being transmitted to the road wheels efficiently. This causes other problems such as high fuel consumption, erratic engaging of gears, hard selecttion of gears, heavy vibration of the vehicle, stalling; just to name a few. In most cases an unusual smell of the clutch disc is observed.

Also just by resting ur foot on the clutch pedal while engine is running can be dmagaing too. You see the clutch release bearing rests on the pressure plate, so when the clutch pedal is pressed by the driver, there is a degree of friction being placed on the bearing because the pressure plate is always rotating with the engine. The clutch release bearing is stationery until the clutch pedal is pressed by the driver, which sends it into the moving pressure plate, so less pressing on the clutch pedal the less friction between the bearing and the pressure plate. Only operate/press/place foot on the clutch when necessary

i have just replaced an 03 civic ex clutch and transmission bearings due to a customer being too harsh on it. It sounds like its got a little life left in it if you are easy on it. 

if there is adjustment in this model use the below walkthrough to adjust it.

adjust the clutch pedal, 

1. if you look up on the top of the clutch pedal, the first thing you should see if a clutch pedal position switch, and right behind it there is a locknut, looens the locknut. once you loosen it, back off on the pedal position switch or adjusting bolt untill it no longer touches the clutch pedal. 

2. now behind the clutch pedal, there is a pushrod. and on that pushrod, there is a locknut, loosen that locknut. Now turn the pushrod in or out to get the desired height and stroke at the clutch pedal. 

The freeplay is the amount of push on the clutch pedal to where is starts to have resistance from the top. I have usually been told it should be set at 1 1/2-2 inches of freeplay.

Once you set it, tighten the locknut on the pushrod. With the clutch pedal released, turn in the clutch pedal position switch untill it contacts the clutch pedal. then turn it an additional 3/4 to 1 turn. And tighten the locknut.

Now on top of the clutch pedal switch, there is a clutch interlock switch. Loosen the locknut on that switch. then press the clutch pedal to the floor.

release the clutch pedal 15-20 mm (0.59-0.79 in) from the fully pressed position, and hold it there. adjust the position of the clutch interlock switch so the engine will start with the clutch pedal in this position. then tighten the locknut on that switch.
