You can eliminate it by removing the bolts between the flywheel and the torque converter. A weak cylinder can cause this also. Do the basics, check plug colors, compression test, and even a leak down test to start.

How to replace a Dorman Harmonic Balancer on a 2001 Chevy venture van

What is a Harmonic Balancer?
The Harmonic Balancer, or vibration damper, is a component connected directly to the front of the engine on the crankshaft. Its sole purpose is to reduce torsional vibrations created by the engine as the cylinders fire.

What causes Harmonic Balancer failure?
There are a variety of possible causes for balancer failure. Most common among these are heat stress, wear from road salt, oil leak, or ozone attacking the rubber components, damage inflicted by road debris, crankshaft failure, stress from integrated drive pulleys, and stress caused by loads from other devices such as power steering pump, AC compressor, alternator, air pump, and water pump.

I have a 2006 chevy trailblazer i change all the mounts inclunding the idol tentionor and its still vibrates and make niose when am in drive or reverse in park and neutal its fine but just when am in

If the harmonic balancer wobbles when the engine is running, it could cause a vibration. A typical balancer has a rubber seal between the balancer and the belt drive pulley. The rubber seal may have deteriorated.

Changing harmonic balancer

Nope! Why don't you give the mechanic a tune to see if it's running rough because of lean mixture, fail ignition coils, worn spark plugs....could be one of those things. Because when yours is rough at idle, it means the mixture is not right, more likely be lean or one or more cylinders not igniting properly. Got nothing to do with harmonic balancer. But do check motor mount for cracks, but faulty mounts only give you excessive movement that you can really feel it KICKS when you change from P - R - D.

How to drop distributor in 2003 chevy s 10 4,3

first thing was the timing moved. very easy .I do a lot of s 10 head gaskets. looking down at the harmonic balancer there will be 2 marks on it. the first 1 and about an inch away is the second one, you want to mark the second mark, and now pull the number one spark plug out . get a pencil ,and stick it on the spark plug hole, and hold on to it,and have some one turn the motor by the harmonic balancer. when the pencil starts to come out watch the marks and once you hit the second mark and the pencil is pushed out that is top dead center. make sure the battery is not hooked up. now look at the distribtor cap and get an idea where number 1 is and drop the distribtor down slow it takes a few tries

Replace balancer. You don't notice them until you rev it up.
