Question about 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis

1 Answer

Had a blow out on my 1997 Grand Marquis. Now the engine won't fire. Is there a fuel pump reset in the trunk? And would the blow cause that to trigger?

How do I reset the kill switch on a 2001 murcury grand marquis

If you are referring to the inertia sensor that kills the fuel pump power, then it is inside the trunk and has a reset button. Just press and hold the button and it will reset. Usually on drivers side of trunk next to optional air ride switch.

I want to cut an access panel to my fuel pump. Is the fuel pump facing the backseat or the trunk?

I do not think this is a safe idea, the tank is plastic and if you drive through it you may cause a fire.

2001 Mercury Marquis is not starting. The "OBD2" connector has no response. No power at fuel pump and no spark. How can i fix this?!?

Try resetting the Inertia switch. It is either in the trunk next to the air-ride control or around the front floor kick-panels. Another area is the Relay box for the ECM. If the ECM is not getting power, you will not have either spark or fuel.

The crankshaft sensor can also cause this problem. If the engine does not know it is cranking, no spark or fuel will be available. You may be able to retrieve a Code for this.

Is there a fuse for the fuel pump 92 grand marquis

Hello fellow Grand Marquis owner...

Yes, there is a fuse, relay and an inertia shut-off that all affect power to the fuel pump.

The fuse for the fuel pump is in the power distribution box, under the hood. Fuse #8, a 20 amp fuse that also protects the electronic engine control relay. This fuse box is immediately behind the battery.

The fuel pump relay is immediately behind the power steering resevoir on the left side of the engine compartment. It's under a cover that houses three relays. Look for the words, 'FUEL PUMP RELAY'
on the plastic cover and carefully lift to check the relay, if necessary.

Check that the inertia switch didn't go off from a pothole or other jolt to the car. It's in the trunk, on the left side, above a yellow warning label with instructions. The reset button is pointing upward through a hole in the fuzzy gray trunk carpet material.

Good luck from Detroit, MI.

2000 mercury grand marquis starter turns over but car wont start its a 4.6 engine

Engine is not FIRING? But it turns over, right? Assuming this is so, I'd run the OBD II codes first.
Fuel pump operating? Can you hear it when you turn the key to `ON'?
If not, there's a fuel pump reset button,I believe in the trunk(safety switch in case of collision).
