For electric windows it can be common for a wire to get cut. At the driver door hinges. Inside the rubber boot where the wires pass from the driver door to the car body. Their is a lot of wires stuffed inside their. it can be a little bit of a pain to squeeze your hand in between the door and the body to look at the wires.

I just had the same problem, and it turns out it was a bad battery. Apparently the Taurus computer tests the battery voltage while the car is being started, and if the voltage is too low the computer begins disabling accessories, like the power windows. (But it doesn't alert you, say, by turing on the Check Engine light.) It also was affecting the remote control (key fob) operation, which is also fixed now.

Here's what I measured (before and after) on my own 97 Ford Taurus:
Bad battery voltage 'at-rest' (before starting the car) was 10.3V; dropped to 9.6V with vent fan, dome light, and radio on. Bad battery voltage while starting the engine: 7.5V. Bad battery voltage while engine is running (i.e., alternator is running): 14.4V.

Good battery voltage 'at-rest' (before starting the car) was 12.9V; dropped to 12.2V with vent fan, dome light, and radio on. Good battery voltage while starting the engine: 10.7V. Good battery voltage while engine is running (i.e., alternator is running): 14.4V.

So apparently if your battery ever falls below 10.0V, the computer freaks out and goes into "limp-home" mode, and begins shutting accessories off.

This is similar to when my Taurus radio stopped working whenever the car was in reverse, and it turned out to be the Transmission Range Sensor, which makes no sense at all, but fixed the problem.

I am unable to operate my rear window from the key hole in the back and now always have to turn on the ignition in order to operate it. Is this a common electrical issue or how do I fix this? Any...

Normally all electric windows are inhibited when the ignition is turned off. On many vehicles there is a delay that allows the windows to operate for a few seconds after the ignition is turned off to allow the windows to be closed.
If the window used to work without turning on the ignition, it could be an issue. It is possible that you have a fuse blown or a relay not working. Check all the fuses, and try to swap out relays (the little black boxes mounted in the fuse box - they are interchangeable).

1985 dodge 150 window goes down but not up on passenger side, has juice up and down out of switch to motor.replaced motor and does the same thing, down but not up. Any advice?

You have power to the switch so the fuse is good. Next is to check the switch. The contacts often fail and need to be replaced. If possible take the known good switch from the other window and temporarily connect it to the problem window and test it. If that does the trick you know you need a new switch. There may also be a relay in the circuit. Do the same swap procedure to test that relay. Good Luck!!!!!

I need an electrical diagram showing wiring from the base,to power windows on a 2003 Chevrolet Venture,my power windows won't work either side in my 2003 Venture, checked power at fuse box next to...

Check the main fuse box next to the battery, # 8 max fuse powers IGN MAIN 2 Ignition Switch to Fuses (I/P): BCM PRGRM, FRT HVAC LOW/MED BLWR, FRT WPR/WSHR, HVAC/DRL, MALL/RADIO/DIC, PWR QRT VENT, RR HVAC, RR WPR/WSHR, SWC ACCY & PWR WDO Circuit Breaker.

#3 circuit breaker is the front window breaker, try swapping it out with another breaker beside it and thats located in the side dash panel also.

The common cause of failed power window function is the switch on the doors going bad from dirt. Does the power window on the passenger side go down with the passenger side switch?? if it does then its a bad drivers side and and try cleaning the switch with electrical contact cleaner. 95% of the time this will save you from buying a new switch.

keep us posted and thanks you for using fixya

Rear passenger window won't work (from either the master switch on the driver panel or the switch on the window itself). Are the windows individually fused?

check wires into door for damage. Pull switch out by levering out with a screwdriver and swap with a known working window - if that works switch is shot. Otherwise its the motor and /or window regulator in all probability

Renault kangoo indicators and hazard lights have stopped working, checked the fuses there ok. Could you help?

Most common cause is a failed indicator relay. Just swap it with a known good one to confirm whether it's faulty but ensure it's correctly rated for your Kangoo.

After that, the next most common causes are more expensive: the indicator switch and the hazard light switch.

ck the fuses first( they are under the steering colum then try swaping the rocker switch that works the dodgy window for one of the other three to see if it is the switch they are nortorious for not working if that fails strip the door card on the effected door and replace the motor these are also a well known problem

Passenger side window regulator

either it is misaligned ... the trim is gummed up ... or most likely the switches and or the harnesses to them or any of the 5 or so other connectors and 40 feet of wire between them has corroded loose or burn't terminals. A very common problem, that very few people can correct (even many mechanics) .... A voltage check would be in order at the switches (9V to 14.5V and reverses polarity depending on direction the switch is switched) and or at the motor (it could be any of those things as they all form a loop through all the wires and all switches when you operate the windows) ... it's a bit complicated for most to find or diagnose ... an automobile electric specialist would be your best bet .... unless you know your stuff and have multimeters, schematics and such.

1998 Stratus -> power windows quit.

What you need to do is use a method we refer to as back feeding. Going back to the fuse that has no power across it. Leave the fuse installed, and then using a long jumper wire, commect one end to a known 12 volt power source and the with the other end of the wire, tap one end of the fuse. If there is no spark, and the fuse does not blow, leave the test wire connected to the fuse and operate the power window switch in question. If the window now operates, begin to check back towards the switch to diagnoss the loss of power.
