Question about Lincoln LS

3 Answers

Lincoln ls 2001 50k mi airbag diag B1932 which from what I have researched is a broken or open wire from the connector under the driver seat to the driver position sensor in the seat. Also, there is some mention of airbag circuit resistance high. What is the repair cost for this to be corrected? This problem (airbag lit up on console) one hour after I left a Lincoln dealer who had serviced my car for another problem. and...that problem was not corrected yet either.I had my car serviced at a different dealer than I always have gone to since the early 1990's since they sold the Lincoln dealership and only kept the Honda. On Fri I went to my original dealer and they are going to finish the1st bothched repair, nominal cost. I'm still unsettled on the airbag

So far neither response has told me anything more than I pulled off the web in about 10 minutes by just googling the diag code. This code was on a sheet that I requested from the dealer with them thinking I was trying to get my AAA warranty to pay. This dealer didnot do a diagnostic test for $98.00. They just submitted the diag code on a sheet. I think they just watched the way the airbag signeled on the dash it blinks 3 times then 2 4 or 5 times then the airbag light stay solid. I want to be prepared before I go back to a different Lincoln dealer tomorrow regarding cost of the repair. A ballpark figure. I do not want to be ripped off again. Thanks

My original repair was an emission light came on. I took the car to a Lincoln dealer 30 mi from my home. The dealer ship where I live sold out to these peoples 4 days later I got the car back, they replaced spark plugs and a few other parts. the cost was $1100.00 I paid out of pocket $529.00. the very next day the emission light came back on along w/ airbag. Car went back. They kept it 3 1/2 hrs and said I needed upper & lower ralings And the airbag issue would be addressed after I ws to contact AAA to see if warranty would pay. I think the car was fooled with!! This car is beautiful. And rode flawlessly until the emission light came on, it then hesitated slightly. This car has been well maintained. And..after I picked it up last Mon pm. ran great until the next Am then emission light on again w/yet another problem and the air bag light.

Its a 6 cylinder. there were a few other things they did. I donot have the repair sheet in front of me. It is at my office. I made copies of everything the 1st dealer did and gave to the 2nd dealer on Sat. Also, now the car is not getting the gas and almost stalls out. I guess that is why we now need 2 upper and 2 lower railings? This repair is covered by AAA warranty. I have to pay $33.00 more, on top of the $529.00 last Mon I have turned the car on the airbag symbol flashes 3 times then 2 times it does this 5 times then airbag symbol stays solid.

What was the original repair for as chances are it will fix the airbag issue. does sound like a stick or failed relay tho

what size motor ? a 3.8 litre by chance ?

first if you have a moment let me know what they charged you 1,100 for as that better have been gold spark plugs they replaced for that cost.

second if it is the motor i'm thinking of the repair is not expensive and if you are handy with a small rachet and socket you can repair it in about 10 minutes.

as far as the airbag it almost sounds tho they have knocked a wire off or similiar. perhaps details of what was performed may aid me in determining why it is on.

one thing to do and it may or may not work for that year car is to turn the key off and on three times ending with the key on. the light will start blinking just like morse code. so 55 would be five flashes a space and five more flashes. would be handy to have those codes.

incidentally if you are in the states, drop into autozone they will scan the codes for free.

that code is for the evp system (pollution control)

please do let me know at some stage what they did the first time if it is itemized.

a couple more things, if you are able to have a look at the right side of the motor near the back (firewall) for a rectangular box. it has two tubes going to it as well as a plug with wires, i can't recall how many. that is likely the culprit.

i suspect that the airbag issue will be cured by the first repair being done properly. changing sparkplugs shouldn't cost more then a hundred to two hundred. with computer control of the ignition system there is no such thing as a tune up in regards to setting the timing or such.

the only thing i can think of when they mention rails is the fuel injector rails.

what i would suggest and it is very inexpensive, is to buy a couple bottles of gas-line antifreeze. it absorbs water in your fuel and should cure the misfire you are experiencing. the results should be almost instant after you add a bottle to your gas tank. i presume you are in north america and possibly in one of the northern states, and water in fuel is very common this time of year

i stand corrected. that code is indeed high resistance likely in the clockspring in the steering column. there are other causes. does that have tilt steering and do you hear any noise in the steering wheel when you turn the well.

also water in the fuel will cause a mis-fire which will set off your check engine light and hesitation is one of the results of water in the fuel. a six cyclinder might not be too bad but i remember the same issue in a 4 cyclinder car and it was VERY noticable.

try the gas line anti-freeze before you go to the dealer. that should/may fix one of the problems. usually under a dollar a bottle.

You could be right on the wiring sensor or the wiring sensor found underneath the seat that can be damaged with the back and fourth movement of the seat. It is difficult to gain access to it but should be an easy fix. If this checks out OK, you may want to have the clock spring checked which is found underneath the steering wheel. You will have to turn off the power and remove the steering wheel and its housing to gain access to it. Unfortunately I could not find any info on labor cost for this actual repair.

Airbag light on 2001 sonata, also small modular under pasanger seat broken cover, and under driver seat there is a wonnector that does'nt go anywhere. thank's

First the airbag system can be dangerous to work on and it is usually best to consult a professional since to accidental inflation of an airbag can cause injury, do not cut any wires and disconnect the battery when working on the system.
When the airbag light is on it disables the airbag system inmost vehicles meaning if there is a collision the airbags will not deploy. Some autoparts stores can check codes which is where to start with the warning light on and modular connected check the airbag trouble codes with this information it will be easier to diagnose the system and the cause of your problem. I hope this helps

2002 lincoln ls...front air bag indicator light stays on after flashing 3 times...sensor prob?...dai5190

You will have to get the airbag code read to be sure but I have had to replace the clockspring in my steering wheel and also the airbag wiring harness under the passenger seat on my 2002 Lincoln LS, all in less than one year. If you or someone you know can help you remove the seat you can do the wiring harness yourself, it is a simple clip.

Airbag light stays on 2000 Lincoln LS

I hate to say this is one of the few times I recommend taking your car to the dealer. Messing with the airbag system could cause it to deploy in your face, which believe me is not a pleasant experience. If it does deploy, the cost of a replacement will come close to the book value of the car. The other alternative would be that whatever you did to the airbag would case it not to deploy when you most need it. In either of these situations you are much better off throwing a few bills at the dealer.

BEEPING CONSTANT WHEN I START THE CAR

Check your owners manual under Warnings audible and see what things are listed to to cause a warning tone it could be a faulty seat beat buckle, to low brake pressure. You have options 1 have it checked 2 turn the radio up high 3 ignore it 4 trade in. Good luck with this decision.

I have a 32 code in my 2002 lincoln ls.the function on my steering wheel all work and the connector under the seat seems fine as weel

If all is fine, try resetting the codes and see if it comes back again.
The flashing SRS light it called an LFC code. The reason you are getting different information is that it does not pinpoint a defective part - but that you have either a open circuit or a short.... so many things can cause this.
here are the codes:

B1932 32 8 Driver Air Bag Circuit Resistance High
B1993 36 22 Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Ground
B1992 36 22 Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Shorted to Battery or Ignition
B1994 36 22 Driver Side Air Bag Circuit High Resistance
B1995 36 22 Driver Side Air Bag Circuit Resistance Low

Typically, a 32 is a broken or open wire, and a 36 is a short.

So that is why a 32 is usually the connector under the driver seat (to the driver position sensor in the seat) since the seat moves back and forth all the time (with easy-entry) - the wires break causing it to go 'open circuit'.
the 36 is usually a short - so when the clock-spring fails - it's actually a ribbon cable in the steering column that wear through - causing multiple wires to rub through bare and short to each-other.
but - since this is an electircal circuit - any bare wire could cause

2001 PT Cruiser Limited Ed. Airbag light keeps coming on and off and chimes every time it does. Is there any way to turn it off for now, its driving me bonkers?

There may be some reasons of coming the airbag light on your PT Cruiser. Some connectors could be loose under seats or sensor of steering wheel could fail. However it is really rear. Your problem is probably caused by common problem in PT Cruisers - by broken wire on driver's seat.
Before you start doing anything disconnect a car battery. After 15 minutes remove a plastic panel from the seat (the one you can see when you open your door). Than you will see a wire in plastic cover. It connects an airbag in your seat and yellow connector under the seat. The wire breaks near to the second plastic T-shaped part (looking from the top of the seat backrest). It is located where is a pooling line and rising seat connector wire - somewhere in the center of lenght of the seat. Put the seat backrest to the vertical position, push up the black plastic cube of the line to remove it and have some room to repair the wire, cut a cloth tape. You should have ***** white and red wires. Inspect the wire about 1,5 inch from the center of the place where was the center of the T-shaped plastic keeper. The wire outside will be looking as new, but coper lines inside used to be broken. Strech slightly one by one of the 2 wires. When you find the break just cut the plastic cover in that place, remove 0,25 inch of the cover from each of cut end of wire and twist the ends or put extra 2 inch insert of the same wire. Wrap the coper wires in insulating tape neatly and tape all of the wires together with the T-shaped plastic keeper. Put on place the line udjusting a backrest of the seat, the keeper and plastic cover of the seat. Connect a battery and check it.
If you are not sure where is the place whre the wire could be broken, it is exactly 30 centimetres from the connector of the airbag. TomasS

The airbag light came on and stayed on for no reason.

I have the same issue (which comes and goes often).
It is caused by a loose wire connection, used for the drivers side airbag located in the seat.. The connector for mine is located under the front drivers seat. There are a couple of connectors that are connected to a bar under the front of the seat. I don't recall which one is used for the Airbag sensor.
