The most likely cause is the shifter. The BTSI solenoid is not working properly. The shifter will have to be replaced to fix the problem.

This is what I did to get the key out of mine. Turn the key in the ignition to on but do not turn it far enough to start the vehicle, this will energize the components. Put the emergency brake on.....now take the shifter in your hand and release the pressure on it so you can move it back and forth from park to low. Now, **** it back and forth as fast as you can for about 4-5 times. Put it in park, turn the key off and see if you can remove it. Good luck, you may have to do this a few times and it may release.

The shop may be able to energize the solenoid enough to release the key or they may know how to manually do it. I do not know at this point if a manual release is possible with that. Once I did mine, I found that my daughter had spilled cola down the shifter and it had actually gummed up the contacts...a little cleaning and all was well....lets hope for the simple solution!

Key wont turn in ignition

Often this is caused by steering wheel interlock. Try turning wheel a little back and forth while trying to turn key to see if key now turns. Some cars require stepping ******* brake pedal and if the switch at the pedal has failed or become dislodged this can happen.

Unless you turn your key forward the ignition switch will not come out. try wigging the steering wheel back $ forth while turning your key it may release the pressure and allow the key to turn.

Key wont turn in ignition

Your steering lock is probably stuck, try turning the wheel while turning the key. It's pobably parked with it's wheels turned and so you need to jiggle the steering wheel hard back and forth while holding the key turned (with a moderate amout of force, not too much) If it still doesn't come out then your lock cylinder might be broken, but I suspect the above remedy will work for you. Cheers bro.

Try to move the steering wheel back and forth. If that don,t work try to disconnect the neg - side of the battery. this will at least kill the engine.
