Question about 2001 GMC Jimmy

1 Answer

Fuel shuts off every 1/2 gallon or so.

Whenever we try to fuel up our 2001 Jimmy, it seems to take forever. We can start the dueling process and it clicks off before we get even 1 gallon in it. It then contiunes with this pattern. Guage does not work properly, we fill it every 150 miles or so. Please help.

Those hoses are located in the same area as the tank filler. There is a set of hoses that go from the gas cap connection to the tank. You have to lower the tank.

When I try to start my 2001 jimmy, it locks up and won't turn over

Can you turn the crankshaft by hand? Use proper size socket and breakover, hopefully, there is a pulley bolt on the end of crankshaft. If it won't turn, take the belt loose and remove spark plugs in case of hydrostatic lock, fluid in the cylinders.
You said it locks-up, that what I am going by. Meaning the engine mechanically locks up. It could be internal engine problem?

On my 2001 GMC jimmy sls, when the fuel guage gets near half full it drops to empty and lately when really full it reads empty until a few gallons are gone. What is the problem and how do I fix it?

you probably have a bad fuel level sensor in the fuel will have to remove the fuel tank to replace the sensor.the contacts on the sensor will break causing the fuel gauge to be can buy the sensor without having to buy the whole fuel pump assembly.

Jimmy wont start sometimes

Do you have the 4.3L engine with spider fuel system? That system is noted for problems. Key on engine off, fuel pressure, 60--66 psi, use a fuel pressure gage. It needs that pressure to start, after it starts, it will run with less pressure.
There could be other issues? Engine cranking, you have spark at the plugs and fuel injector pulse?

2001 Jimmy shut down while driving. The ECM1 fuse blew. Replaced fuse and it blew. disconected circuits related to ECM1 fuse. reconected one circuit at a time. Fuse did not blow and Jimmy started. Why?

The first thing you should do is to locate the oil pressure switch/sending unit.

It's a single wire terminal with plastic connect sensor from the engine block.

This switch serves two functions.

1) provide oil pressure reading

2) disable the fuel pump relay in event of oil pressure loss.

When this switch is failing to provide the correct pressure to the ECU. The wiring harness can overheat and eventually create a short.

ECM1 fuse blow is because the harness is grounding/shorting.

DO NOT drive the truck until you change the oil pressure switch.

After you change the switch, you should spend sometime to inspect the wiring between the fuel pump relay,ECU and fuel pump.

Please post up day on the comment window/page.

I will follow up on it later.

Good luck.
