Changing the engine oil will not make the engine light go OFF. The engine light can mean anything. So many sensors and emissions related parts can cause the engine light to turn ON.
Some auto-parts stores will hook up a scanner to your car and tell you what is causing the engine light to come On for free. Just need to call around your local area auto-part stores to see which ones do them for free.

This is really easy! Please follow these directions:
Turn the key ON
Look at the odometer, and verify that it displays "ODO" and the total mileage traveled. If it is on "Trip A" or "Trip B", press the black stick next to the odometer to read "ODO", and the total miles traveled.
Turn the key OFF.
Press in, and HOLD the black trip meter reset button, hold it in.
DO not release it.
Turn the key ON; do NOT start the engine
Observe the Odometer display. The total mileage traveled will disappear, and you will see 5 dashes, then 4, then 3, then 2, then 1 dash, and finally, 5 zeros. Then, the total mileage traveled will redisplay.
Release the black trip meter reset stick.
This completes the reset procedure, and the light will be back on in 5,000 miles, to remind you of you next oil change.
Hope this helps, and thanks for choosing FixYa. Happy Thnkasgiving!

You have to manually reset this light after oil change using your users manual. Unless you are talking about your low-oil level light, in which you should go to autozone and have the pull the code off of your car to see what the problem is. They do it for free. I hope it's the first thing though. Hope this helped.

SOURCE: check engine light went on
the check engine light is for the engine electronic controls, there is a fault, have the trouble codes tested by the dealer to see what is making the light come on. I assuming this light is yellow/amber colored? if not, and it is red it is a low oil pressure warning light, in that case the oil pressure sending unit on the engine may be defective.
